We were lucky to catch up with Iris Diaz recently and have shared our conversation below.
Iris, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory of how you established your own practice.
I’m excited to share my journey of starting my herbalist practice!
From the beginning, I knew I wanted to reach a broader audience and provide herbal remedies and consultations in a convenient and accessible way.
My first step was to research and plan my online business thoroughly.
I created a detailed business plan that outlined my target audience, the herbal products I would offer, and the technological requirements for setting up a virtual practice. I also spent time understanding the legal and regulatory aspects of operating an online herbalist business.
Creating a professional website was a crucial aspect of establishing my online practice. I invested in a user-friendly website that showcased my services, provided valuable information about herbal medicine, and enabled clients to book virtual consultations easily.
One of the key challenges I faced was building credibility and trust with potential clients in the virtual space. Since I didn’t have a physical location that people could visit, I needed to find ways to demonstrate my expertise and authenticity. To overcome this, I focused on sharing testimonials from satisfied clients on our social media pages and now offer Google Reviews.
In hindsight, I’m proud of the path I’ve taken, but there are a few things I would have done differently. Firstly, I would have started building my online presence even earlier. Creating a solid online presence takes time; the sooner you start, the better. I would have begun sharing content, networking, and connecting with potential clients before officially launching my practice.
Additionally, I would have started exploring collaborations and partnerships with other online wellness practitioners sooner. By collaborating with individuals in related fields, I have reached a wider audience and now offer wellness solutions to clients all over.
For young professionals considering starting their own online herbalist practice, here’s my advice:
Deepen your knowledge: Invest in continuous education and training to become as knowledgeable and skilled in your field as possible. Stay updated on the latest research and trends. Embrace technology, establish a professional website, and leverage social media to build an online presence. Focus on credibility and transparency and be genuine and authentic in your approach. Communicate your qualifications and expertise to build trust with your audience. Engage with your community. Interact with your online followers, respond to their inquiries, and build a supportive and engaged community around your practice.
Stay resilient and adaptable; the online world is dynamic, so be prepared to adapt your strategies and offerings to meet the changing needs of your clients and the digital landscape.
Starting my herbalist practice has been a fulfilling and empowering experience. It has allowed me to connect with people from various parts of the world and share the incredible healing power of herbal medicine.
I’m grateful for the opportunity to make a positive impact on the well-being of others through my herbalist practice.

Iris, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello, everyone! For those who may not have had the pleasure of meeting me yet, I am Iris, the proud owner of Herb, by IrisElizabeth LLC, a thriving establishment founded in 2018. At Herb, we offer an extensive online collection of over 60 bulk herbs and exquisite loose-leaf tea blends, meticulously curated to address various health ailments.
My upbringing in the Dominican Republic kindled a fascination for herbal remedies at a young age, as I crafted perfumes using the flowers from my grandmother’s front yard. Little did I know that this early interest would later blossom into a passion for the world of herbalism.
In my early twenties, fate led me to meet my mother-in-law, Noni, whose profound knowledge, and wisdom opened my eyes to the remarkable capabilities of herbal medicine, particularly as a form of primary care.
A few years down the road, during my pregnancy, I took the decisive step of legally establishing Herb by IrisElizabeth, further solidifying my place in the herbal landscape.
I am constantly seeking knowledge and exploring intricate concepts like the Doctrine of Signatures and the Four Humors. My dedication to learning has led me to take courses at the Herbal Academy, where I proudly earned three certifications in herbalism. Presently, I am working towards attaining my master’s in therapeutic herbalism while simultaneously embracing a role as a member of the International Association for Colon Hydrotherapy.
As I journey on this path, I find myself still exploring the vast possibilities that the herbal field offers. The beauty of herbalism lies in the diverse career paths available, allowing me to discover where my passion as an herbalist will find its most meaningful expression.
Personally, I am captivated by the idea of herbal medicine practitioners becoming an integral part of our current healthcare system, blending the timeless traditions of herbal wisdom with the contemporary needs of our modern world.
As I continue to evolve and grow on this journey, I remain deeply inspired by the transformative power of herbal remedies and stand loyal in my commitment to promoting holistic health practices.

Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
There are a few things I would change in hindsight, particularly recognizing my liking for herbalism at an earlier age. Looking back, I believe that if I had been exposed to the holistic health practices I now embrace, I could have lessened certain health concerns I faced. During my teenage years, I lacked the curiosity or interest to delve into important health topics, such as the preservation of meat or the effects of additives in our food on the human body.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Aside from training and knowledge, I believe the most helpful aspect for succeeding in herbalism is a genuine passion for healing and helping others. Herbalism is not just a profession for me; it is a heartfelt commitment to making a positive impact on people’s lives through natural remedies. Moreover, building a solid network of connections within the herbal community and collaborating with other professionals contributes significantly to success in the herbal world. Engaging in discussions, sharing experiences, and learning from fellow herbalists enriches my knowledge and expertise, fostering a supportive and dynamic environment.
