Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Iris Ayala. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Iris, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
The biggest risk I have ever taken was starting my journey as a content creator. Content creation has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember. But it was a dream that I put on a shelf for years because someone once told me “who would watch your videos.” Since then I was scared of being perceived and making a fool of myself. So for years I sat on the sidelines watching other people live my dreams. Around 2020 I was lost and trying to find my purpose, and I just felt a pull to start creating content. In 2021 I found the courage and posted my first TikTok. This decision changed the entire trajectory of my life.
Iris, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a personal finance content creator. I got started creating short form content in 2021 because I noticed there was a lack of female finance creators. I also got start because I knew I could break down complex topics so simply anyone can understand and feel comfortable watching my videos. My content is targeted for beginners trying to get a grip on their personal finances. I talk about all things money: credit cards, investing, retirement, side hustles, etc. My main goal with every piece content I create is to make money easy to understand. So I will often incorporate easy to digest analogies and vocabulary because I want this subject to be approachable for everyone. Because of my unique approach to make finance easy I often get comments and messages saying “I’ve watched so many videos about finance but yours is the one I actually understand.” It is comments like these that remind me why I started, and why I need to keep going.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I am on a mission to make money easy to understand. Financial education is important to me because it is a subject that is often neglected. I was never taught money at home or in school. Luckily, I was naturally drawn to the subject of personal finance and self educated. But I completely understand when people say finance is intimidating or confusing. Which is why I try my best to make money as easy as possible and approachable. I want everyone who watches my content to gain confidence to take control over their finances.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I got started creating content on TikTok in 2021. Naturally as time went on I expanded my content to other platforms. For anyone that is interested in creating content I have 2 main pieces of advice: provide value and be consistent. Providing value is essential to growing an audience online. For instance, I provide value to my audience by creating educational content. Every piece of content has something valuable for the viewer. Providing value gets people interested in your content and they will be more inclined to come back for more. Consistency is also key. With every piece of content you put out you are slowly improving your craft. I recommend posting at least once a day to start building a social media presence. By doing this you will build the momentum to grow an audience.
