We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Irena Kyd. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Irena below.
Hi Irena, thanks for joining us today. One of our favorite things to hear about is stories around the nicest thing someone has done for someone else – what’s the nicest thing someone has ever done for you?
I missed the train to get to work at the hospital because my babysitter ran late, and I didn’t want to leave my four children home alone. I therefore had to drive into the city with my Minivan and couldn’t find a free parking spot that was large enough. I had to park on a metered spot that was only timed for 2 hours. I thought I could quickly run out after 2 hours of work and re-feed the meter for the next 2.
No such luck. The office was over-full, patients were waiting…
I was getting really antsy, anticipating a huge fine. I told my nurse about the situation while a patient was getting dressed again.
The patient was a drug addict, jobless, making ends meet as a prostitute, and now unexpectedly almost five months pregnant. She told me she could feed my meter if I gave her the money, even if it was out of her way. On a hunch, I did. But, I had to admit to myself that I thought: she’s just going to take off with the money and buy drugs. At least it’s not much…
You know what happened? When I raced to my car after 2 more hours, the meter had been fed. No fine. Honestly, I felt ashamed thinking she would likely “steal” the money.
I realized that poor woman was a kind soul who got sucked into the drug scene and just hadn’t found a way out.
I was happy to be able to accompany her through her pregnancy. Birth was easy for her; the baby didn’t even have withdrawal symptoms.
A filmmaker later made a documentary movie about the drug scene in the city of Zurich, Switzerland, and interviewed this woman. It’s a moment I’ll never forget, when I heard her talking about me as being her “super doctor who gave her the courage to have the child and kick the drug habit”
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I now feel I was born a healer. I have been coaching my whole adult life. First as a physician, then as a Reiki master, lastly as a life- and relationship coach.
I have gone through the ups and downs of a stressful marriage, and child rearing while having a demanding job. I have come out wiser, stronger, and calmer. I can truly say: I love my life, and I am happy every single day with the same husband.
Being a scientist at heart, I wanted to find out how this remarkable transformation had occurred.
I studied neuroscience extensively, learning about the memory of trauma, attachment theory, and more.
I got certified in “Law of Attraction” and “Clear Beliefs” as well as “Mental Fitness” coaching.
The puzzle pieces started to come together and make sense.
I now have the knowledge and ability to zoom in quickly and deeply into what the core issues are that are underlying people’s problems. Even better, I can guide clients to resolve those, so they, like me, can be happy every day.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
Yes, I would. Every day I feel great about my work. I never felt it was too much (even if I now physically could no longer work the 80-hour weeks I had to as a doctor). It is always gratifying, never boring.
I love to connect to people, fellow sisters on this planet, inspiring them with my story, helping them to find fulfillment. In turn, I know they’ll impact others with their transformation and spread happiness, love, and joy.
I must conclude there’s something in my DNA, the genetic code, that made be this kind of person. Or, it’s the alignment with my soul’s purpose that makes me feel: I’m on the right path.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Similar to the above, in order to be successful, a person needs to be connected to their “why”. Why do you do what you do? Does it light you up? Are you on purpose? You know you are when it feels good. Many people lament they have no clue about their purpose. They don’t know how to find it. They just live life by default. They believe there is no other way.
This kind of thinking is based on limiting or negative beliefs. To be successful, you must shift those beliefs. Start believing in yourself, your purpose, your importance, your mission in this world.
So I guess, it comes down to mindset.
Have an unshakeable belief in yourself and your work.
Trust that what you resonate with deep within your soul is your life’s purpose, no matter what other people say.
Then go forth with confidence and make it happen!
