We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Interstar Salaam a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Interstar thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
If you do not have the ability to take risks. Never think about going into business.
This year has been a major transformational year for me. It’s probably the biggest adjustment I’ve made thus far since being in business. And let me tell you, it hasn’t been an easy ride. Over the years, realizing the importance of knowing when it was time to pivot from one service option to the next was been vital and necessary for the longevity of my business. If I didn’t take certain risk. I knew I would eventually find my business stagnant, stuck, and lost looking for answers and solutions to whats next. You truly have to understand where you no longer fit as your business grows and make the necessary changes. Just know if taking this leap scares, you your on right path and go anyway. Learn as you grow. Be a sponge and let your passion drive you, and your fear fuel you along the way.
With that being said transitioning my services this year to focus solely on commercial and multi family & residential renovation cleaning projects. This change has not been easy, to say the least. For one this is not considered your general house cleaning services or your daily commercial cleaning service. Taking on this level of service is a lot of responsibility it requires a game plan. An efficient amount of staff, correct cleaning equipment, supplies an a optimized checklist to carry out each project. No job is never same and requires a different level of expertise to carry out the job specifications. This part is crucial in order to make the final renovation project complete.
Interstar , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My background and work ethics come from basically always being in a managerial position at previous companies I worked at and being their star performer. I just said one day I could be just as much as a success being in business for myself as I am working for someone else. And here I am still going strong.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Making necessary investments in marketing has, over time has been my main source of growth. Over the last six months, the most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been solely marketing through Google Ads and social media ads. This hasn’t been cheap and the biggest and the scariest hurdle. You have to believe in your business just that much and trust the unknown. You have to be willing to invest your brand enough to put yourself out there.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
How I built my reputation is through leadership and consistency, leading by example with my work ethic, reliability great
communication, and the willingness to learn for the betterment of my company.
