We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Inpatient. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kyle below.
Inpatient, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
As it goes, the three of us have all worked on many musical projects. Beginning most of our careers as young teenagers, we’ve all developed many skills and preferences when it comes to our personal creative tastes and work flow. Currently we can all say Inpatient has quickly become our most meaningful project. Not only when it comes to musical taste but how naturally the three of us can come together with ideas, concerns, and passions, always with the intent of pushing boundaries and creating something we can all be proud of.
Having only played shows since the beginning of 2024, we’ve quickly grasped a strong sense of awareness when it comes to playing live. Strengthening our ears when it comes to listening and playing off one another, we take pride in this nearly telepathic response. With this ability, we’ve been working extremely hard in the studio in attempts to translate that energy and cohesion into our new album.
Planned to release later this year, we’re excited to share our collaborative effort of songs we’ve been touring the past few months. As mentioned before, we three come from many different musical backgrounds. That and our love for weird psychedelia fuel our ambitions to share what we’ve been working on with the world.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Inpatient is built around core members Kyle Cook, Miguel Tarin Torres, and Clay Craigo. We’re a Psych Prog Trio from Akron, OH committed to creating a unique live experience. We gain inspirations from 70s prog and psych, proto-punk, and improvisational music.
Having only started playing at the beginning of this year we’re proud to have already made a good dent in the Ohio Psych scene. Accruing good relationships with neighboring cities and states, we plan on spending the end of this year and into next year touring our newest material and making our stamp. We’re most proud that in this short time we were lucky enough to open for popular psych group “Meatbodies” at the Grog Shop.
“Inpatient Bastard EP” was debuted a few years after Kyle was cooped up during the pandemic. These four original tunes pull from ideas of growing older, life during isolation and the anxieties that come from both. After joining forces with both Miguel and Clay, we’ve grown to become a much more refined reinvention of the original songs. This with all purposes of conjuring up collaborative prog madness, evident through our newest single “Brain Sludge”.
We plan to further strengthen our craft and the bond between us as we spend some well deserved time in the studio working on our debut album.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
We’ve all played in a number of bands and projects over the years, so there were a lot of things we’ve learned and were taking into this new project of ours. However, the one thing none of us ever got to take full advantage of was recording our rehearsals. Since we started rehearsing, which was about May of 2023, we made sure to spend adequate time optimizing our practice space and allowing us the ability to confidently record and listen back to ourselves. This helps us in so many ways including, jamming and writing new material, fine tuning existing songs and giving us the opportunity to record demos. We can’t express enough how much this has helped our ability to listen and play off each other, and would highly recommend others this tip as well.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Personally speaking as not only an artist but as a fan and supporter for many other artists. The best way I’ve found to support is to interact and go to shows. There are many ways in the modern age you can enjoy your favorite artist, whether that’s listening to their music, staying updated on social media or even recommending them to friends on said social media. But not a lot has changed through the years when it comes to support. Going to shows, interacting with other fans, buying merch, and overall fueling the energy and comradery of the audience as a whole is so important.
There’s a strong direct relationship between the audience and the artist that when you can physically engage and be one together in a space, it is truly liberating. Not to mention how expensive it is to be an artist; to tour to provide entertainment and material for fans. It costs a lot of moolah. The best way to support that is to buy merch and go to shows, put money directly into the pockets of your favorite artist so they can continue doing what they love and what you love to hear. Obviously this is a very passionate topic for us so I know whenever we have the availability we always try to catch local shows, and touring acts so we can continue to support what we love.
