Inga Hoehne, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?

We’re Maike & Inga, two mommies with one idea – create something affordable that we both love, as well as our customers. We started a few years ago and with every year and all the things you learn going through this journey of being self-employed it gets better and better. There are ups and downs of course – just never give up. And it has really helped us to do it together, since you always can push each other and have someone to exchange thoughts, worries, successes etc.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?

Hi there, ❤️ We’re Maike & Inga, two mommies with one idea – create something affordable that we both love. So after a vacation in our home country of Germany in 2018, we both came back with the same idea. It was hilarious when we spoke on the phone and were both insistent to meet up the next day, and both laughed at the coincidence of it turning out that we both had come up with the same idea that we got inspired by in Germany!

MYPHONELACE – a lanyard to hold/wear your phone.

In our Etsy shop, quality is the most important aspect! With this in mind, we started designing our own prototypes aiming to introduce such a useful and affordable accessory to the American people! We are constantly working on new designs, new colors, and variations of new collections. We carefully choose our materials and assemble all phone lanyards by hand. Our unique selling point is the universal patch that makes it possible to use the phone lanyard with all phone models and your own favorite phone case.

We wanted a shop that also gives you the opportunity to design your phone lanyard individually. In addition to the color of the cord, you can choose the style of the patch, as well as to add a litte charm if you like. The same goes for wrist lanyards.

In today’s world, everyone has a phone and mostly everybody uses a case to protect it; so why not have a case with a lace to make it more user-friendly and secure?
It is so very convenient, and it’s useful for practically everyone!
No matter the situation: if you are out walking your dog, playing with your kids, going out with friends, dancing at a club or bar hopping, grocery shopping, running around at work, running errands, working out in the gym, taking photos while on vacation, we’ve got you covered :).

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?

I am sure you hear this a lot but definitely support local businesses and small businesses in whatever way possible. No matter what it is, if it’s the creatives, the artists, the little boutique owners, the small family owned restaurant, coffee shop, or like in our case an Etsy shop online. To shop local and in small businesses if around you, when on vacation, or even when online means the world for most of the owners. The special gift you make to yourself, or to others and getting great quality and amazing customer service means a lot these days.

Is there a mission driving your creative journey?

Yes! Absolutely! To make a full time living with our business. Thrive outside Etsy as well, and be found in boutiques.
