We recently connected with Infinite Allah and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Infinite thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with what makes profitability in your industry a challenge – what would you say is the biggest challenge?
I feel like the biggest thing hurting profitability for photographers and creatives in general is actually the time investment. Yes a camera is expensive, yes a laptop is expensive, yes gear is expensive. But I feel like like time efficiency plays the biggest role. As a photographer I know first hand how easy it is to spend a couple days editing photos from a shoot that only paid $200 or $300. It almost feels like to make more money, there’s got to be trade off of your art. Can you make a lot of money as a photographer? Sure. But it’s tough if you’re spending a lot of time editing photos. It’s difficult to make a lot of money if you’re thinking about photography as a form of expression or as an art rather than as a business.
I think the the second biggest cause for photography not being the most profitable is because of undercutting. Everyone is undercutting the next person. I learned this as a sports photographer shooting for the big name highschool and college basketball stars in SoCal. It’s impossible to charge these athletes for their services because when you try to charge them they’ll just go to the next photographer who’s dirt cheap or even doing it for free.
Infinite , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Infinite , but I go by clutch. I’m 19 years old, I recently fulfilled my life-long dream of moving to Los Angeles at 17 years old. I remember following all the popular Los Angeles landscape photographers before I moved and I always thought I’d buy a camera when I moved to LA. Because I wanted to take cool photos like them ofcourse. I first started by shooting the low rider (classic cars) cruises, and I eventually branched out to sports photography. Where I would find myself photographing and shooting for some of my favorite athletes from LeBron James, to Dwight Howard, to Russell Westbrook and more. As I begin to expand my versatility I have become proficient in portrait, travel , and real estate photography. I love travel and aspire to travel the world , as well as just the outdoors in general. So I love travel photography. One of my most recent trips was to Iceland, where I was shooting for travel influencer @iamflyrell. So it was great a great opportunity to capture the beauty of Iceland and the countries stunning landscapes while I was there. I also run a professional real estate content creation company called Clutch Visuals Media. So we produce exterior & interior listing photos for real estate agents, along with drone footage and photos, and videos curated for social media use. Real estate is something that has always been intriguing for me. So my real estate media company is a long term goal of mine and I hope to one day build a strong team of content creators, and become the go-to company for real estate content creation in Southern California.
I think one of the biggest things that sets me apart as a creator is my versatility. I can be your guy for a portrait shoot, for a branding shoot, I can take action shots, I can photograph your car. Want to sell your house and need photos of your house? I can do that too. Most photographers specialize in a specific area. I’m a specialist also, but I specialize in multiple areas, which I think is very convenient for a client. To not have to hire different photographers for different things. It’s always easier to have one guy you can trust for all your needs.
Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
This is a pretty insane story and one would probably call it luck, but when I first started photography I would dm celebrities and influencers randomly offering a free photoshoot. I remember one day being kind of irritated with the results I was getting my photos and then boom I see a message pop up on my screen “let’s go” and it was Dwight Howard. He invited me over to his home the next morning. I think it was as like 6AM so just 7-8 hour after he texted me back. And I took photos of him and his son, it was the first day of school. It was also opening season for the lakers so just hours later, he invited me back to photograph him in his pregame outfit – first of the year and he pulled out all the stops for this one. Afterwards I messaged every other athlete on the lakers and clippers rosters thinking I’d have a shot but – no luck.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I’ve been running social media pages since I was a kid. I grew and sold pages to make money for awhile so I’m pretty comfortable with social media. I’ve also done social media management for multiple clothing brands and a sports agency. Social media “algorithms” change all the time. There’s always a new feature and new strategy, but the biggest and most important thing is consistency. With the quality of what you’re putting out being the next most important. If you’re posting quality content daily , your audience will grow.
