We were lucky to catch up with Inferno Drag Show recently and have shared our conversation below.
Inferno , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
One of the biggest risks we’ve taken during this journey is investing time and energy into engraving our show name into the Phoenix Scene. There’s a lot of talent out there and we didn’t feel like there was enough stages for non-binary, Trans, Bi-POC artists like the ones you see on this cast.
So during the quarantine that had us all locked indoors. We decided one day just start and create a platform for all kinds of people to show their drag art. Which led to so many new opportunities, adventures, connections in different states, you name it.
If it weren’t for us taking that risk, saying yea to every opportunity that we worked hard for. We wouldn’t be here selling out every month in the downtown Roosevelt arts district.
There would be no “Inferno Drag Show” if it weren’t for us taking those risks.
Inferno , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
We are Inferno Drag Show. We are a monthly drag experience that highlight the local and out of state talent at Kahvi Coffee every Last Saturday of the month!
There are 5 of us in total that make up Inferno Drag Show; Burandy J Wine, Rosie C. Savage, Pyra Addiction, Lucy Purr, and K.yasss.
We believe that everyone should have the ability to feel seen, and to feel the love that you get from being on a stage. Our goal is to ensure that the LGBTQ+ has a safe space to enjoy and discover the art of Drag. We want y’all to experience something new every month. So if y’all want to come kick back with us, eat some good food and sip on some drinks on the last Saturday of the month. You can get all your show dates/information on our Instagram “Inferno.Drag.Show”.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The energy. The excitement. The overall emotions and experience of the shows we do.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Inferno drag show has had more than 1 home. We’ve had to face a lot of obstacles, we worked with a lot of people and learned what we deserved and what we didn’t along the way. Discovering your worth and your capabilities, is probably one of the best things ever. As a group we faced a lot of these obstacles together so we just couldn’t give up, and we fought hard to get to where we are currently and we’ll keep fighting to remain there.
