We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Inez of Inez J Photography. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Inez below.
Inez, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.
As a photographer, it’s common for clients to express feeling photo-shy or awkward in front of the camera. When they share these concerns, I reassure them by emphasizing that my approach isn’t about expecting them to be models. Instead, I aim to capture their authentic selves and unique connection.
To ease any apprehensions, I typically schedule a call with them to gauge their dynamic as a couple—such as who tends to be more talkative or reserved. Additionally, I send out a questionnaire prior to our session. This allows me to tailor the experience to truly reflect their personalities and story, while also helping them feel more at ease during the shoot.
During the session itself, I prioritize genuine moments over forced or generic poses. My goal is for their personalities and relationship to shine through in every shot. Over the years, I’ve found that this approach consistently leads to clients being delighted with their photos. It’s incredibly rewarding to hear them express their love for the images and even discover a newfound appreciation for their partner’s photogenic side!
Inez, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a wedding and portrait photographer based in the San Francisco Bay Area, California. I specialize in capturing the beautiful moments of family portraits, engagements, and weddings. My journey into photography began at a young age, inspired by my father’s passion for capturing memories using a manual SLR camera. Despite finding the intricacies of camera settings daunting at first, I fell in love with photography during my high school years when I received my first point-and-shoot camera.
In those early days, I found joy in immortalizing moments with friends and teachers at school, eagerly awaiting the developed prints to share with others. This early experience instilled in me a deep appreciation for the transformative power of photography. To me, the camera is more than just a device—it’s a magical tool capable of freezing moments in time.
What sets my work apart is my commitment to preserving the essence of each moment I capture. Whether it’s the excitement of an engagement, the warmth of a family gathering, or the joy of a wedding celebration, I strive to authentically document the emotions and connections that make each event unique.
Ultimately, I want potential clients to understand that I’m not just a photographer; I’m a storyteller and an artist with a camera. My photography goes beyond merely capturing pretty photos—it’s about crafting timeless memories that will be cherished for generations. Combining elements of fine art and documentary, my style results in images that are visually striking and deeply authentic. I am passionate about storytelling, and capturing the magic of people’s lives through my lens is what truly drives my creativity and dedication.
Should we have an opportunity to collaborate together in the future, you’ll quickly notice that my presence is like a steady current—calm, observant, and attuned to the subtle nuances of your day. I specialize in capturing those quiet, often overlooked details that hold immense significance. It’s not uncommon for clients to marvel at moments they didn’t even realize had occurred, expressing gratitude for my ability to immortalize these fleeting instances in their final gallery. Their reactions, such as “I didn’t even notice this happened” or “I’m so glad you captured this moment,” serve as a testament to the profound impact of my approach to photography.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Definitely word of mouth! The support and recommendations from both satisfied clients, planners and fellow photographers have been invaluable. I’m truly grateful for the kind words and referrals that have helped me connect with new clients.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is the opportunity to be invited by my clients to document significant moments in their lives. Whether it’s capturing the excitement of an engagement, the momentousness of a wedding day, or the beautiful everyday moments in family portraits, being entrusted to immortalize these experiences through my lens is incredibly fulfilling.
