We were lucky to catch up with Inez Hill recently and have shared our conversation below.
Inez, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
The first time I knew I wanted to pursue a creative path professionally was when I was a young girl, around 6 or 7 years old, at the Martin Luther King Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I was an energetic child, always full of ideas and constantly looking for ways to express myself. My art teacher at the center, who was nothing short of amazing, noticed this spark in me and took me under her wing. She taught me the fundamentals of art, from mastering the color wheel to understanding shapes, lines, and textures. Her passion was contagious, and I soaked up everything she said like a sponge. It was in her classroom that I first fell in love with the world of creativity and realized I had a natural gift for bringing things to life through art.
Even at that young age, I could feel how different I was from my peers. While other kids were still learning to stay inside the lines, I was already creating dynamic, expressive pieces that left everyone amazed. I could visualize something in my mind and transfer it to paper with a speed and clarity that felt almost instinctive. My art wasn’t just about looking good; it was about feeling alive. The bold strokes, vibrant colors, and imaginative details were an extension of my boundless energy.
As I grew older, I became even more determined to deepen my skills. I attended art schools, including Columbia College Chicago, the Art Institute of Chicago, and later, the Art Institute of Las Vegas. Each place was a gateway, opening up new dimensions of creativity for me. I dived into everything—sketching, painting, mixed media, and even digital art. After college, I became fascinated by the idea of using my drawing skills to help people in unique ways. For a time, I dreamed of becoming a forensic sketch artist, drawing composite sketches to aid in finding criminals. I loved the idea of art as a tool for justice, blending creativity with purpose.
But my path was never a straight line; it was an evolving journey. My MMA background also played a significant role in shaping my creativity. Martial arts taught me to appreciate the art of the human body—its movements, its strength, and its fluidity. I became deeply interested in how the body connects to energy, exploring chakras, chi, and the healing power of meditation and sound. To me, movement was another form of artistic expression, a way to tell a story without words.
In my late 20s, my passion took yet another turn. I started transitioning into tattooing, drawn by the idea of making art that people could carry with them for life. Tattoos felt like the ultimate blend of creativity and connection, allowing me to work directly with people and turn their stories into visual masterpieces. It was also a way to merge my skills as an artist with my understanding of the body as a canvas.
Looking back, that little girl in Milwaukee could never have imagined all the doors her love for art would open. From drawing at the MLK Center to exploring the intricate beauty of tattoos, art has always been my way of understanding the world and connecting with it on a deeper level. Creativity isn’t just what I do—it’s who I am.
Inez, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For those who may not know me, my journey has been a rich tapestry of creativity, resilience, and self-discovery. I’m a multi-passionate creative with over 20 years of experience in health, fitness, and holistic wellness. My path has taken me through the worlds of art, movement, and healing, and I’ve woven these experiences into everything I do today.
I got my start in the arts as a young girl at the Martin Luther King Center in Milwaukee, where my amazing art teacher nurtured my talent and introduced me to the fundamentals of art and color. From there, I attended prestigious art schools like Columbia College Chicago and the Art Institutes in Chicago and Las Vegas, exploring various artistic disciplines. My work grew to include personal training and coaching, blending my MMA background with a passion for the human body’s potential and energy flow.
Now, my services and creative works span multiple areas. I provide holistic fitness and coaching programs that focus on mind-body alignment, create handcrafted crystal jewelry infused with intention, design tattoos that tell deeply personal stories, and DJ uplifting sets under the name DJ Sage Goddess. Everything I do is infused with purpose, aiming to empower others to connect with their true selves.
What sets me apart is my ability to integrate diverse elements—fitness, healing, art, and music—into transformative experiences. I don’t just offer products or services; I create opportunities for growth, healing, and self-expression. My clients and followers often say that my work inspires them to embrace their uniqueness, break through limitations, and live authentically.
What I am most proud of isn’t just a single accomplishment—it’s the journey of becoming who I truly am. My life has been shaped by challenges, but those very challenges have been my greatest teachers. I’ve learned to overcome them by never fearing to be myself, even when the world tried to mold me into something else. Traveling the world has taught me to appreciate the beauty of different cultures, art forms, and ways of life, all while staying true to who I am. I’ve learned to trust the flow of energy, love myself unconditionally, and honor the unique way I learn, create, and grow.
Through it all, I’ve discovered the importance of aligning with my energy and trusting the natural flow of life. I’ve learned to love myself unconditionally—not just who I am, but how I am, including the unique ways I process, create, and learn. I don’t want to be anyone else but me, because being me is my superpower. This self-love and authenticity have become the foundation of my work and my life.
I want everyone to know that we are infinite beings with limitless potential. My brand and work are about encouraging others to dream big, embrace their authentic selves, and never stop evolving. Your energy is your gift, and your authenticity is your power. Life is about being unapologetically you and unlocking the endless possibilities within. Let’s create, learn, heal, and shine—together, we are limitless.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Books, Videos, and Resources That Shape My Entrepreneurial Thinking:
I immerse myself in resources that empower, inspire, and align with mindful, intentional living. I read extensively, particularly books that explore Buddhist philosophies, power mastery, and holistic self-awareness. Authors like Thich Nhat Hanh, Pema Chödrön, and Jack Kornfield have significantly influenced my perspective on mindfulness and balance. Additionally, I engage with works from motivational and spiritual leaders like Abraham Hicks, Dr. Mariel Buqué, and Les Brown, whose insights fuel personal empowerment and purpose.
I frequently watch documentaries on platforms like Gaia, exploring themes of meditation, mindfulness, and the interconnectedness of life. These visual tools deepen my understanding of the mind, body, and soul connection while enhancing my ability to lead creatively. Music, especially rhythmic instruments like drums, helps me find my creative flow, grounding me in the moment and expanding my energy. Importantly, I avoid conventional television or news media, which I find distracting and stifling to my creativity and inner peace.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Artists thrive in environments that nurture their growth, provide space to create, and allow them to explore their inner worlds. Society must value the role artists play in shaping culture, telling stories, and bringing beauty and healing to the world.
This begins with giving artists the freedom to be, without judgment or restrictive systems. A thriving creative ecosystem includes providing grants and resources that enable artists to learn from seasoned mentors, travel the world, and connect with diverse cultures. Immersing in different environments and experiencing new vibrations inspires profound growth and creativity.
Artists need spaces where they can express, feel, and thrive—a sanctuary that encourages them to transform their vision into reality. Society must recognize that the world is inherently beautiful and that artists reflect this beauty in countless ways. By investing in their well-being, valuing their work, and creating avenues for cultural exchange, we empower artists to uplift humanity and expand our collective consciousness.
