We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ines Silva. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ines below.
Hi Ines, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I believe that there are gifts that we are born with and I couldn’t see myself without this one. Since I was a child, colors have attracted me in an intense way, such as drawing, cutting, photography, art in all forms. And when it’s such an intense thing, I think I automatically understood that this would be my path, without a doubt. My father always awakened my creative side, as he is one too, and this support was essential to “nurture this gift”. I have memories as a child of him drawing me animals & persons and I creating the clothes and colors, and cutting socks to make dresses for dolls. Maybe it’s destiny, I don’t know, but I arrived in this world with so much creativity that it doesn’t let me sleep or stop since I was very young. I fight every day so that my mind can rest a little. Today, I just feel happy, because this was without a doubt the path I saw myself.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I officially created ISART Design in 2010, now as a handmade fusion clothing brand without the use of machines. With it came many crazy dreams, which I knew I would have to fulfill. I was always automatically self-taught, without any course and everything I know today I learned by myself, experimenting, exploring, focusing on the path to follow. My fascination for the different, for the exotic, made me start this project. The main aim was that clothing and jewelry merged into one, and that people could wear art in your bodies. From the beginning, the mission was to include everyone in this thought, so what sets our clothes apart is that they are all custom made and are adjustable in various sizes, because we are unique and that is what makes us so special. I share the love for this brand with another crucial element in the story, my partner Rodrigo, who is part of the creation and assistance line. Thus, we create everything only by hand: there are 4 hands and 2 hearts, and a lot of love for every detail. We consider each piece a small work of art, and who receives it can be sure that they also receive a little piece of my soul. Our little treasures are skirts, tops, vests, and accessories, with unique and quality materials, which bring an innovation to traditional leather work, because we fuse it with fabrics, gemstones, macramé techniques, shells, metals, and others. We can’t hide that it’s hard work that takes a long time, and we’re always asked why we’re still without a machine, but our obsession with touch, feeling, manual details always speaks louder.
When our customers fall in love with a piece, they enter this enchanted world and feel all the love that goes into it. We receive many messages every week, and we love that they treat us like family and always tell us that we make them: true goddesses. This way we know that the main message is getting across, we are creating feelings, and that honors me, knowing that other people identify so much with my art. Today we couldn’t be more proud of our adventure in the world of alternative fashion, it has been magical and full of challenges.
We always say that the secret to success is: to love what we do!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Without a doubt it is: FREEDOM. Being free to create what I feel has brought me many good things. I met incredible places and people on business trips, I can create and then go for a swim at the beach, I can manage my time in the best way, I can freely wear different clothes, I can work anywhere. And I can also be free to daydream! An artist sees the world differently, poetizes life and makes it a new place, living in this other reality makes me a fulfilled person.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
This brand is not just a brand, it’s a story. And throughout these years, it is full of stories. When I learned the meaning of the word “resilience”, I had already gone through 1001 situations. Carrying a business on your back is very spiritual, we need an inner strength that sometimes we don’t even know where it is to take care of everything and not give up. There are many days that we don’t even feel like getting up, and we have work that awaits us and nobody will do it for us. This brand has been pulling me to that level, like healing. In our seasons of events, my mind was blocked, I felt like I was just a machine and not a creative one. I cried when I saw so many people, I just wanted to create alone and not participate in more events. It’s very hard work, and I was worn out, and I had to stop and focus on the future. I know that I am a person who never gives up on anything, and that can sometimes consume us. Today I laugh at the crazy things we went through and we are certainly much stronger and more confident.
