We were lucky to catch up with Indya Caldwell recently and have shared our conversation below.
Indya, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
My parents did right on teaching my how to give everything that I do my all. No matter what it is don’t half do it and don’t show people you can’t be your best. I had some losses but it never stopped me from pursuing and believing in my dreams. Now I am reaping the benefits of it because my business is growing.

Indya, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Indya Caldwell otherwise known as Losbeauty. I am a Natural Hairstylist & Soft glam makeup artist located in Flowood, Ms. My biggest goal is to get people to understand that there is beauty within themselves that they have not even gotten to understand. I want to show people their untapped potential through all things beauty. What makes me stand out from others is that I do have a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and a minor in Social Media Content and Strategy. I immediately started cosmetology school after I crossed the stage. I use the knowledge from school to consistently promote my business and grow it. I am one of the biggest go getters/get it done people I know. And I want people to see that Losbeauty is more that just coming to me to get your hair and makeup done. It’s an educational and safe haven for growth within ourselves. And committing to love ourselves through and through because God made us perfectly in his image. Let’s redefine natural hair together.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
To initially fund my business I took multiple routes. I didn’t have money saved up and I did not have a lot of money coming in from working, but I did use graduation money, parts of my checks from work, and unfortunately a credit card. Which I am working to pay back today. I took a lot of risks , especially with my finances so it taught me a lot on how to budget and deal with it today.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
The main thing I believe helped build my reputation in my market is being my true self. I always am kind, understanding, and open. And although I am far from perfect, people know and understand what kind of person I am and it reflects well into my business. I take my business seriously and I treat my clients with the same respect I would want to be treated. But I will also set boundaries when things are crossing lines.
