We recently connected with Indigo Boroski and have shared our conversation below.
Indigo, appreciate you joining us today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
The biggest defining moment for my career would be the moment I realized I needed to start my own beauty business! One day when I was working as a lash tech and esthetician for a spa, the owner and I were sitting in the back discussing ordering products for the spa. I have always had a passion for the environment and doing what’s necessary to help limit the amount of plastic waste. So, of course, this is something I brought up to my boss at the time. I expressed my concern for the amount of waste we were creating collectively, and was shocked when my boss turned to me and said, “yeah, but plastic’s cheaper. So we’ll stick with what we’ve been buying.” I was in awe. I couldn’t imagine why anyone would choose plastic over eco friendly – but unfortunately that’s the reality of the beauty industry. Shortly after, I decided if no one else would do it.. I was going to. So I started my eco friendly lash studio! Everything that I can get plastic free, I get it. We have to do better as an industry!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I have an eco-friendly beauty studio in Round Rock, Texas across from Kalahari Resort! I do lashes, microblading, and facial waxing with more services to come. I focus on enhancing your natural beauty and conserving the health of your natural lashes! The lash industry is saturated with those who focus on mega volume and BIG fluffy lashes. Though, they are beautiful, it is not sustainable for your natural lash growth. I try to limit the length/fullness so that we can maintain your lash’s health. I also have eco friendly products to take home and use to ensure that your lashes last as long as possible.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Honestly, consistency! With social media posting, with my client’s experience in my studio, with the way their lashes come out at the end of each fill. Social media and word of mouth have grown my business to what it is today and I couldn’t be more thankful. Instagram tags are the #1 way I’ve gotten new clients into my studio. I tag my area, what is associated with my picture and/or reel, and of course, surrounding cities and towns!
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Being authentically yourself. You will find your clients will appreciate you more, and honestly it will lead clients to you that you love working with and will want to keep around! I think I’m a little bit in love with each and every one of my clients and I think that’s so important. Make friends! Ask them about their day! And respect their space and boundaries. If someone wants to chill and nap while they’re getting their lashes done, man just let them! If they want to talk, talk with them. Sometimes a good connection is all you need. Success is easiest when you are comfortable and being yourself. It has taken so long for me to realize that, but dang am I sure glad I learned it’s power!
