Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Indiah Jackson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Indiah, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
Being a chef full time hasn’t always been the dream. I started off by working full time at a hospital locally in my city and was working there from the typical 9-5. In that period of time was looking to find myself and my passion. I recently just graduated high school a year early in 2018 so that summer going in to fall I completely dedicated my time and energy into that job to find out that it was breaking me in to a depression. I knew something had to change and something bigger had a calling for me. Living pay check to pay check during the weekends I sold dinner plates locally in my cites to friends, family and peers and they began to enjoy my food so much I would completely sell out every weekend. As time went on I knew there had to be a change in my environment to be able to gain my mental, happiness and sanity back. I took the risk one day to step out on faith and quit my job to become a full time chef. I planned out a my full month of dinners I would sell for the following month and by the end of that month my income was so high that my bank account has never seen those kind of numbers. The risk was me stepping out on faith with my beliefs and hopes to succeed off of my passions and I never turned back.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi, my name is indiah I am the proud owner and CEO of tastesbyindy catering. I have been in business for about 4 years now. Tastesbyindy is a catering company that specializes in luxury dining experiences for elite customers that love high scaled intricate wine & food with style and wonderful taste. My passion for food has always been vibrant since a kid. I’ve always like fine dining since I was introduced to it at a very young age. When all the kids would be eating chicken tenders I would be the kid would ordered steak instead. Cooking is another story, I’ve never been big on cooking until I moved into my own place at 18 I don’t have the typical story of learning from being in the kitchen with my grandmother or mother all the time. Cooking was a talent that God gifted me and I wasn’t aware that he was going to bless me with this gift until later in life. Entrepreneurship definitely has its highs and it’s low and being in the food industry can be tough at times I try to teach my self discipline through Christ and being faithful to my word to the lord and through Christ I know that I can not fail or will never lack anything because what is for me is always going to be for me. My talents are gifted from the man above and I work as such I put passion and love in to every plate or service I put out. Tastesbyindy not only provides services but also sells products such as seasoning, wine, and ebooks coming soon. These are all branded and owned by tastesbyindy LLC. We believe that our passion and our drive and commitment sets us apart from so many other typical catering companies. When we show up we show loyalty, ownership & pride within our work. I’m very proud of how far I’ve came I’m proud of the challenges that I face daily and drive that I push to get through those obstacles. With me only being 21 I feel that my drive and effort I put in my business is phenomenal. I’m constantly looking for new ways to grow and inspire others by the choices that I make In my business daily.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I began my food page with 0 followers and my main page with a little over 1k. My food page is now close to 5k followers and growing daily. The steps I took to build a platform that has grown to this point is that I created a platform where my audience can connect with me on a personal and business level. I allow my followers to see behind the scene, backstories and and highlights of what it takes to run out company. We are a very transparent company that wants our clients to find us trustworthy and reliable. We invest in to our marketing daily. We send out news letter through email. We post daily to keep our audience engaged and to keep them up to date with any given news. We also do a lot of face to face marketing we pass out flyer and we are consistently putting tastesbyindy in to different rooms by simply speaking on the company and it’s benefits and services.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I believe that word of mouth and clients referrals has definitely been a big impact on our reputation as a whole. We have so many repeat clients that enjoy our services and products that they always are referring and offering our services to their peers.
