We caught up with the brilliant and insightful India Young-Johnson and Dajon Johnson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
India & Dajon, appreciate you joining us today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
DJ and I, college sweethearts turned business partners, started Creative Pear with a shared passion for bringing unique and high-quality creative services to life. We’ve both had diverse experiences, from event hosting and creative portraits to styling celebrities, and we wanted to combine those skills with our love for executing distinctive ideas. Every project we take on, whether it’s fashion show production or project management, is a reflection of our dedication to creativity and excellence.
The name “Creative Pear” really captures the essence of our partnership—just like a pear symbolizes nourishment and growth, we’ve come together to produce something fresh, original, and impactful. We find freedom in creative storytelling through photography, fashion, and more, and that collaborative spirit is what drives everything we do.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Our journey began in college, where as student leaders, we discovered how creative we could be with limited resources. Everyday life inspired us to turn simple ideas into art, and that creativity became the foundation of Creative Pear. Whether it’s photography, fashion, or project management, we bring that same passion to every project.
What we’re most proud of is the freedom to be creatively bold while helping our clients stand out. We don’t just offer services—we create experiences that allow people to express themselves in ways they never imagined. Working with Creative Pear means more than just hiring us; it’s about building a partnership rooted in our love for originality and impact.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
We wish we had known about resources like Soho House and other spaces designed for creatives to connect and network earlier in our journey. Having access to those types of environments would have made a huge difference in helping us secure mentorship, partnerships, and foster long-term, fruitful relationships much sooner. Being surrounded by like-minded individuals is invaluable, and those kinds of spaces create opportunities for collaboration and growth that we would have loved to tap into from the start.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being creatives for us is the freedom to express ourselves in a way that feels true to our perception of the world. It’s incredibly fulfilling to take our ideas and turn them into something tangible, and the experience becomes even more meaningful when others connect with and appreciate our version of art. There’s nothing quite like seeing people resonate with what we’ve created—it’s a reminder that we’re making an impact through our creativity.
