We caught up with the brilliant and insightful India Daniel a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
India, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today. So, let’s start with trends – what are some of the largest or more impactful trends you are seeing in the industry?
Today, more than ever, people are all about self awareness. We are living in a time where we want to be our authentic selves and showing this through style is just one way to go about it. In the optical industry, eyewear has evolved and people are wanting more than just your basic tradition black, brown, red, or neutral frame. Eyewear is speaking and it is speaking quit loudly.
People want big, bold, and colorful because that is what represents who they are. People want to wear what shows their uniqueness, their style, their personality, and their individuality. Traditional is out of the window and the world is a happier place because of it!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
My name is India Triplett-Daniel and I am the CEO of Indy Vision LLC. Indy Vision LLC is not just a name or a Brand. It is a mindset and a life style and we are changing the way you see things! Indy Vision Optical Eyewear Boutique is the beginning of the Brand.
I have been apart of the optical world since I was a young girl. I started off wearing glasses at a young age and developed an insecurity based on the way they made me look and feel. Getting called mean names didn’t help but I was able to over come that as I transitioned into contacts when I started playing sports.
Later in life I developed a love for fashion but after having my first child, I started dealing with insecurities and developed a complex about myself. I felt like I needed a mask and sooner than later, I went back to the very thing I hated the most, glasses.
This time was different for me. I now had a sense of style and knew I had options. Not just the welfare glasses that I once wore as a child. No one would have the pleasure of calling me mean names ever again. If they were going to talk, I wanted to give them a conversation piece to talk about!
So I began to not only style my clothes but found a way to style my eyes. Searching all over for affordable and fashionable non prescription eyewear wasn’t easy, but I made it work.
Years later, and even after deciding to have lasik surgery, I still make it an absolute must to style my eyes with Fashionable eye wear.
This time around, I no longer use glasses as a mask but as an accessory to my own individual style and personality.
My Boutique was created from my life experience with wearing glasses. We are a Optical Eyewear Boutique that specializes in nontraditional and fashionable eyewear. We aim to bring out the confidence during our clients frame selection. We don’t just sell glasses to our clients, we provide Stylist who can connect with them to make them feel good about their choices.
Indy Vision frames are unique, stylish, affordable and of good quality. Our goal is to frame you in something that will not only fit your face, but fit your personality, style, uniqueness and individuality.
Our high end styles without the high end cost, paired with our personable Stylist, is one thing that sets us apart from competitors in the industry. We take pride in this and strive to continue to provide this to our clients.
Along with our product, our customers have the opportunity to schedule a Spectacular Sip & See. This gathering is put on by a host in the comfort of their home. It comes with an Indy Vision Eyewear presentation, lite decor, lite refreshments, wine/ beverage, and a game. This gives us the opportunity to meet new clients, build relationships and market our product.
We are proud of the many relationships we have developed within multiple cities and states, as well as the continuous growth as a new Small Business.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
One thing that has helped me build my reputation within my market is my ability to connect and build relationships with people. I have always been a “people person” and have found it very easy to communicate with others while making it comfortable for them to reciprocate that communication back with me. I’m a personable person and naturally attract people to me with my good spirit and personality. This has been throughout my entire life, so going into business with that same energy has been a great benefit.
Something else I believe has contributed to helping me build my reputation in this new business, is my prior reputation within the community as a Leader and Advocate for youth. I am the Founder and CEO of Huckaby Heart Youth Development and Mentoring Center. Since founding this organization in 2017, I have been able to build meaningful, lasting, and trustworthy relationships with many people and organizations. When people trust you as an individual, it’s easier to trust products or services you offer. I am intentional about making a difference in others lives so anything that I contribute to this world is something beneficial to others in a positive and influential way.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Something that has made a huge impact on my journey as an entrepreneur, is the abundance of resources within the community. The city of Cleveland is filled with resource centers, agencies, and businesses that are willingly to help you succeed as a entrepreneur. You just have to be willing to search, diligent in connecting, and be committed to building and growing your business. The help is there.
