We were lucky to catch up with Imroz Syed recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Imroz , thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
At HiShutter Photography, our mission is to capture love stories in their truest form—authentic, vibrant, and deeply personal. But beyond just taking beautiful photos, what truly drives us is creating a space where every couple feels seen, understood, and celebrated.
As a multicultural couple—Imroz from India and Halima from the U.S.—we know firsthand how powerful it is to blend traditions, cultures, and families. Weddings aren’t just about two people coming together; they’re about entire worlds merging. That’s why we specialize in multicultural and fusion weddings, because we know how important it is to have photographers who get it—who won’t just document the day but will truly appreciate and honor every tradition, big or small.
Just as important to us is making sure that every couple feels celebrated for exactly who they are. Love is love, and we are proud to capture LGBTQ+ weddings and elopements with the same joy, care, and attention as any other love story. We know that choosing a photographer is deeply personal, and it matters to have someone who not only supports you but truly sees you. Our goal is to create a space where you can be completely yourselves—where every glance, laugh, and quiet moment of love is captured just as it is: real, beautiful, and uniquely yours.
For us, this mission is personal. We’ve been the couple trying to explain traditions to family members, navigating different wedding expectations, and searching for vendors who understood the nuances of a fusion wedding. We also know how meaningful it is for LGBTQ+ couples to work with photographers who create a safe, supportive space where they can be completely themselves.
At the end of the day, our goal is simple: to create images that transport our couples back to the emotions of their wedding day—whether it’s the tearful vows, the epic dance floor moments, or that quiet, stolen glance when no one else is watching. Because those are the moments that matter most. 💛
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We’re Halima and Imroz, the husband-and-wife duo behind HiShutter Photography. If you had told us years ago that we’d be photographing weddings together for a living, we probably would’ve laughed—but here we are, capturing love stories one frame at a time!
Our journey into wedding photography was anything but traditional. Imroz’s love for photography started while leading trips in the Himalayas, documenting breathtaking landscapes and the people he met along the way. Meanwhile, Halima always had a creative eye, drawn to storytelling through visuals. When we met (shoutout to Tinder for the assist!), we quickly realized that our shared love for photography and adventure could turn into something more than just a hobby. Fast forward to today, and we’ve built a business that’s all about capturing weddings in a way that feels real—full of emotion, personality, and those in-between moments that make each love story unique.
What We Offer & The Problems We Solve
We specialize in wedding photography, engagement shoots, and Indian/fusion weddings, bringing a mix of candid and artistic storytelling to every celebration. We also offer courthouse wedding coverage for couples who want something intimate yet beautifully documented.
Our biggest focus? Helping couples feel completely at ease in front of the camera. So many of our clients tell us, “We’re awkward, we don’t know what to do with our hands!”—and we totally get it. Our job is to make sure you never feel stiff or staged. We guide you just enough to bring out natural, effortless moments, while also being there to capture all the spontaneous magic as it unfolds.
What Sets Us Apart
Besides the fact that we’re a husband-and-wife team (which means double the perspectives and double the fun!), we bring a unique approach to photographing multicultural and LGBTQ+ weddings. Being from different cultures ourselves—Imroz from India and Halima from the U.S.—we get the beauty and complexity of blending traditions. Whether it’s a multi-day South Asian wedding or an intimate fusion ceremony, we know how important it is to honor every meaningful detail.
We’re also firm believers that every couple deserves a photographer who celebrates their love, which is why inclusivity is at the heart of what we do.
What We’re Most Proud Of
Honestly? The connections we’ve built. Seeing couples light up when they receive their photos, hearing that we made them feel comfortable, or getting invited to a dinner months after the wedding—those are the moments that remind us why we do this. We’re not just showing up to take pictures; we’re documenting one of the most important days of your life, and that’s something we’ll never take for granted.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
Our story begins in 2020, during the pandemic, when we both found ourselves turning to Tinder—because, hey, when you’re stuck at home, why not? We swiped right, and from the moment we started chatting, we knew there was something special. Halima was living in Asheville, and Imroz had just moved there for Work. Even though the world was a bit chaotic at the time, we bonded over our shared love for adventure, culture, and, of course, photography.
As we spent more time together, we realized we made an incredible team. Our connection felt effortless, and before we knew it, we were both envisioning building something bigger together. Fast forward to today, and here we are, photographing weddings, creating art, and navigating this beautiful journey—together. The pandemic might have kept us apart physically, but it brought us together in ways we never expected!
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Our main source for clients has definitely been our website. We’ve invested a lot of time into SEO, particularly through blogging about our shoots. It was a tough decision deciding which platform to host our site on, but after a lot of trial and error, we’re really happy with the results we’ve seen from Showit. The ability to customize and create a user-friendly experience has been a game-changer.
In addition to our website, we’ve found success on platforms like Zola and The Knot. These have been great for connecting with couples who are actively looking for photographers. Of course, social media has played an important role too—Instagram and Pinterest help us showcase our work, and word-of-mouth referrals from happy clients continue to be a huge driver of new business. At the end of the day, building authentic connections and maintaining a strong online presence has been key to growing our clientele.
