We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Imran Mohsin a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Imran, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today One of the most important things small businesses can do, in our view, is to serve underserved communities that are ignored by giant corporations who often are just creating mass-market, one-size-fits-all solutions. Talk to us about how you serve an underserved community.
Yes — Wicked Boxing proudly serves an underserved community rooted in boxing culture, especially in places like Oxnard, California.
Oxnard is a working-class, largely Latino agricultural town where boxing isn’t just a sport — it’s a way out, a source of pride, and a lifeline for many young athletes and their families. We started Wicked Boxing after seeing local families — many of them farmworkers — walk into our tiny shop, looking to buy gear for their kids. These parents were spending hard-earned money to support their children’s dreams, even when the gear they needed was often priced far out of reach.
The boxing gear market is dominated by two extremes: luxury brands with premium pricing, and cheap alternatives that don’t hold up in training. That leaves kids, amateurs, and even grassroots gyms in underserved communities stuck in the middle — forced to choose between affordability and quality.
We knew there had to be a better way.
That’s why we created Wicked Boxing: to deliver high-quality, durable fight gear at honest prices. In our first year, we launched the 805 Line — a nod to our area code — with gloves starting at $80, offering fighters professional-grade gear without the premium markup. We also work with local youth boxing programs and donate gear when we can, because we believe access to quality training shouldn’t depend on income.
Our mission is simple: support the fighters who come from the communities that built this sport. Because they deserve gear that works as hard as they do.

Imran, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We’re Wicked Boxing — a fight gear brand born out of heart, hustle, and the belief that everyone deserves access to quality gear, no matter where they come from.
We launched in 2022, not just to start a business, but to build something meaningful for the fight community — especially those who often get overlooked.
Our journey began in a small shop — a hole-in-the-wall — in Oxnard, California, a working-class town with deep boxing roots and rich cultural pride. It’s home to legends like Fernando Vargas and Robert Garcia, but also to everyday fighters: kids from immigrant families, farmworkers, and blue-collar communities where boxing is more than a sport — it’s a lifeline.
We saw a huge gap in the market: high-end gloves priced at $150+ or more, and low-quality gear that wouldn’t last a month in a real gym. For the parents trying to support their kids’ dreams and for the fighters grinding with limited resources, the choices weren’t fair. That didn’t sit right with us.
So we built Wicked Boxing to change that.
We make premium boxing and martial arts gear — gloves, wraps, apparel — designed to last, perform, and look good doing it. But what really sets us apart is how we price and who we serve. Our flagship 805 Line was our answer to overpriced gear: pro-quality gloves starting around $80, named after our area code to honor the community that inspired it all.
We’re proud to say our gear is now trusted by amateurs, pros, coaches, and youth programs — not just because it performs, but because they know we’re in this for the right reasons. We also work with organizations like PAL (Police Activities League) to provide support and gear to young athletes who need it most.
What makes us different isn’t just the gear — it’s the mission behind it:
We fight for the underdog. We fight for access. We fight for the culture.
At the end of the day, we’re just fighters who wanted to build something better — and we’re proud to be doing that one glove, one wrap, one story at a time.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
At Wicked Boxing, staying connected with our community is everything.
We make ourselves available around the clock through our online chat and Instagram DMs — whether someone has a quick sizing question or needs guidance on choosing the right gloves for their training style. We don’t believe in generic replies or slow responses — our goal is to be as accessible and helpful as possible, every step of the way.
We take real pride in supporting our customers like they’re part of the team. From walking them through gear choices to following up after their purchase, we go the extra mile to make sure their experience is, well… wicked.
Because for us, it’s not just about selling products — it’s about building trust, standing behind what we make, and making sure every fighter feels confident in what they’re wearing. That kind of support is what keeps people coming back — and we’re proud of that.

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
My co-founder, Said, is actually my brother-in-law — and from the start, we’ve always had a solid relationship.
He comes from a martial arts background and had a strong vision for launching a fight gear brand that truly served fighters. Around the same time, I had just graduated from USC and was looking for a meaningful project to sink my energy into. Said shared his idea with me, and it instantly clicked — we decided to build it together.
What started as his dream quickly became our shared mission.
We’re very different in a lot of ways, but that’s exactly what makes us a great team — kind of like yin and yang. Said brings deep knowledge of the fight world and a passion for product design, while I focus on branding, operations, and strategy. We balance each other out and push each other to grow.
It’s been a journey, and we’ve learned a lot, but at the core of it all is mutual respect, a shared vision, and a genuine belief in what we’re building together through Wicked Boxing.
