We recently connected with Imp and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Imp, thanks for joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
I definitely wish I had started sooner! I began making music when I was fourteen years old, but hadn’t attending open mics and doing shows until I was 24. I was under the impression that I needed released material for people to refer back to first, which couldn’t have been further from the truth; starting sooner and not being afraid to make mistakes is a great way to get your foot in different doors and learn mistakes earlier.
Imp, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got into my music career as the natural next step of a hobby; creating for myself led to performing and providing commissions. I offer my services as a performer for shows, a DJ for events, and a music producer among other things. I think what separates me from some of my contemporaries is my knack for adapting to any scenario on the spot; no matter what I find myself in be it a show, a jam session, a studio session, etc. I can always find a way to fit in and use my skills in a worthwhile manner.
Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
NFTs as they currently stand are a great way to coerce artists into investing in crypto under the guise of making money. If an artist isn’t getting commissioned for art via pre-existing forms of money, the promises of garnering abundance decentralized currency via NFTs is perfidious at best and nefarious at worst. Minting fees aren’t worth the process if the artist isn’t making a return.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Pay them. Commission them. Sponsor them. Refer people seeking services to them. Share their works on social media and in private spaces.
