We recently connected with Immaculate and have shared our conversation below.
Immaculate , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Growing up I loved when the circus would come to town. All of the acts would be incredible. However my favorites were always the ladies that flew high above the crowd and hung from the silks high above the big top. As a child I noticed how there was never anyone who looked like me, and I thought, “ Hey I can do that.”
Years later some friends of mine that were working in a circus asked me to do some choreography for them and since it was easy for me to translate the movements from the ground to the air I took to aerial rather well.
As I looked around in the industry I was moving up in I still rarely saw people who looked like me. I began to think about why that might be. What I came up With was unfortunately there’s not a lot of exposure to aerial arts in my community. That’s when the light bulb went off in my brain. I thought I could use strap Music which is a form of hip hop as a bridge to reach the youth in the audiences. Then hearing that kind of music inspires them to look in a different direction. Upward. And now when they do look up they’re going to see someone that looks like them.

Immaculate , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am the FIRST and right now the ONLY Trap Aerialist. I married the unlikely genre of Trap music or hip hop with its booming and rugged 808’s hi hats and samples from the 70’s and 80’s with graceful seamless movements in the air. Most likely when you see an aerialist perform the music choice is usually one of soft classical kind, attached to a beautifully choreographed routine. With the strap Aerialist you get the same beautiful elongated gracefulness, but you’ll hear something different making the entire experience differ from anything you may have been expecting.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Lessons are abundant when starting something unheard of and new. You’ll have plenty of people telling you how your ideas are trash and how they’ll never work. There will always be those people telling you everything except that it’ll work! Or you can do it! One of the biggest lessons I have learned is that you just have to go for it. No matter how many people tell you that you can’t your belief and faith in yourself have to be stronger than all of them. I mean so what if you fail. You had the guts to try something not most people would have stepped out of the norm for fear of failure and you took the opportunity and the chance to do that. What if you don’t fail?

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
What helped me build my reputation in my field is my professionalism. My professionalism is unmatched. I come to fulfill my contract and dissmiss myself. With my years of experience in the customer service industry I know for a fact that when someone has a really good experience they might tell a few people. But if they have a terrible experience they’ll tell everybody. So it’s in my interest to be as professional as I can be.
