We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Imiya Bias. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Imiya below.
Hi Imiya, thanks for joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
The road to success in itself is a story with many chapters. I feel as if in order to be successful one has to possess resiliency and endurance. In order to truly reach the highest level of success you must fail. Meaning you must see and feel what it is like to be low, in order to celebrate the “highs”. Going through the lows builds resilience and endurance, two things that only the strongest people possess. You have to know there is light at the end of the tunnel. Regardless of how many “No’s” or “dead ends” you hit you have to truly believe one day you will reach your “yes” or “high”. You have to keep going. Over the last 6 years I’ve experienced so many losses, but my resilience and endurance kept me, and so did God. When I first started my business I knew what I wanted my end goal to be, but getting to it would not be easy. Had I not been the resilient, enduring, God-fearing woman I am I would not be standing in the light of success I am today or doing this interview. Resilience, endurance, and most of all God kept me. You have to keep going , you have to believe in yourself, and your goals, to truly thrive in the lane of success.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Imiya Bias. I am a licensed lash specialist & instructor as well as lash supplier in the DFW metroplex and the owner, founder & CEO of The Minx Lab Collection LLC. I started my journey six years ago with $40 to my name, and the rest has been history! I have worked with Zeus Network Stars, as well as Olympic athletes & the journey has been every bit of amazing. I own my own online business of luxury lash products catered to other lash artist like myself. Every day I am faced with the task of making women feel beautiful or enhancing their beauty. What I would say sets me apart from other is my desire to help others. I truly love helping other young women who are aspiring business owners. I know how it was for me when I first started out so, if I can assist other girls in guiding them towards success , I am fulfilled. I root for any and everyone who has drive behind their passions, and I clap for everyone. What I would say that I am most proud of is myself. I’m only 24 and I’m doing my “Big One”, I’ve worked with people I would never imagine and I’ve been in rooms I would never think I’d walk in. The two words I would use to describe my journey would he “But God”. I’m truly proud of me for coming this far and staying grounded in it all. I want my followers , clients, or everyone to know I’m a walking testimony of “walking by faith & not by sight” I’m humble, but I know I’m raw. I’m not a product of what I’ve been through, and my story is not finished it is still being written. The sky is not the limit , go above it!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When I began this journey six years ago, I had no idea it would blossom into what it is today. I can remember back in 2021 , being a fresh graduate of college at Alcorn State University. I moved to Dallas to start in my social work career. Transitioning to Dallas I knew I wanted to live in my purpose and work in the lash industry full time. However, that is difficult when you’re a 22 year old college student with $0 to your name. I remember moving in with my aunt , and starting my job at CPS.. I HATED IT! The long hours, the horrible management. I remember feeling uncomfortable and stagnant as I watched my students whom I certified in the lash industry “pass” me up. When I say this I mean seeing them do what I wanted to do. I felt like I failed, but I told myself to stay patient and keep working and doing what I can until my time came. Fast forward to 6 months later of me constantly planning towards my business and writing my ideas down and watching videos on how to enhance marketing and branding. My resiliency and faith is what kept me afloat. I can remember my aunt telling me a Bible scripture that said “Your gift will make room for you”. Regardless of my horrible job, & me not having my own place I remained resilient and endured. After 6 months I moved into my own apartment and began lashing , shortly after this I moved into my first private lash studio then after that into an even nicer studio with a view & once I knew it I was lashing full time and a full time business owner. You see you have to be resilient and believe that what you are doing is sufficient enough and is working towards the goal.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
My social media presence was built solemnly off of my realness and transparency. Majority of “Top” lash artist push this “you’ll make six figures if you take my lash class”. This could be true , but I am always transparent on social media , yes it is possible to reach six figures BUT you have to work hard, you have to go through the trials and tribulations, the challenges, the obstacles, the difficulties of finding your way in the industry. I am always real and authentic with my followers and I believe that is what draws them to me. My realness. I never try to portray myself as anything I’m not. I’m a 24 year old woman from Mississippi, I’m loud, I’m outgoing , country , I’m ME. My advice to those starting to build social media presence is to have fun with it, no matter who is watching or how many views or likes you get, upload your content for YOU! & be yourself! The rest will follow! The world now lacks originality.
