Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Imani Starr. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Imani , thanks for joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Success is defined in so many ways and differs from person to person. To me one thing about success…in order to become successful you need to know that it’s not going to be an overnight accomplishment. You will have some tears, bruises (literal and or mental), you will experience some setbacks and break downs but how you preserve throughout it all is a key ingredient in how successful you will be.
To be successful you need tough skin!
You have to be able to take criticism and apply it in ways that contribute to your growth. You need to constantly learn about your field/craft, how to evolve and stay steps ahead of trends. You must also center yourself with like minds to be successful. To be successful you must have a goal . Having a goal will help you stay centered and focused on your end game.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Imani-Starr is an artist, educator, and entrepreneur. Since I could remember, I was painting drawing and designing my own clothes. My family has been of great influence. I watched art shows with my brother and watched him paint the most beautiful scenic artwork you ever want to see. I learned a lot from my siblings. Everything from art techniques to performance art. They are my inspiration. In my adult life I’ve adapted to mixed media art. I teach people how to find their artistic voice, facilitate therapeutic art sessions as well as design my own art based apparel. Everything I do is from the heart. I want to inspire others to heal through their own creativity. I want people to leave every interaction with me whether it be social or professional being better than before they came. Art has saved my life, it is my language that ironically people in all walks of life understand…that’s amazing and very fulfilling to me.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
I was interning a couple years ago and in speaking to my mentor…I told her I was looking for a product that wasn’t on the market. In a brief exchange she told me to just make it myself. That night I birthed my company. I didn’t event think twice. I got a website, found my company name everything. Something sparked in me and it was no looking back. I have been working full time off and on to support my business for years. I have reached the point in my previous company where I knew I couldn’t grown with them any longer so with the support of my partner decided to be a full time small business was owner. As difficult of a decision as it was…sometimes you have to bet on yourself. I have no regrets. I have been educating myself, networking and expanding. My rebrand will be coming shortly.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my audience organically over time by being myself. I am a very private person but with my business I am VERY transparent. I talk about my journey my ups and downs…people like that. Your audience gets invested in your story, they want to know what it’s like to do what I do. It just works for me.

Imani Starr is a Shero, I have watched her grow into a woman of great inspiration in a world where there is so much chaos. Helping others help themselves through a medium that was frowned upon for a very long time in the educational system is what she has done. She has used one of her many gifts to help make this world a better place for all. May she continue to shine brightly and may everyone she inspires inspire others. Imani Starr and her siblings are a major blessing to the world— a proud Mom
