Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Imani Ogunro. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Imani thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
I’ve always been into make up since I was a child. I never really thought of making it a career until I started working at MAC cosmetics. there I was able to gain clientele that I knew that could help my business grow, and it was very exciting because I got to meet people from all walks of life. Social media helped me a lot. It showed me how to gauge clients and what trends customers are into. It also show me how to improve my make up artistry.
Imani, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am native to Austin, Texas. I’ve always been a creative whether it was creating content for social media, for my YouTube channel or just for my own entertainment. Makeup is just one of those things that came to me naturally I’ve always been into it and I’ve always felt good after beautify someone with my skills.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I would say would have mouth. Austin is actually not a big makeup city so it is hard to build clientele so you really have to cement your craft in everyone’s mind that you meet.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I follow a lot of successful makeup artists on social media and I learned so much from the products they used to how to effectively service clients.
