We were lucky to catch up with Iman Dillard recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Iman thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
My entire life.. from as far back as I can remember has been about taking risks. I’ve been faced with many challenges, and the most popular question is: are you willing to take a chance?
Coming from a place where living on section-8 and food stamps is normal.. most people get comfortable in their own box. Most people feel as if their dreams are merely just dreams. You have to sacrifice, you have to make bold choices, you have to be willing to take a risk.. even if failing is a possibility. Not trying at all is a guarantee of failure for sure.

Iman, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For anyone that doesn’t know.. my name is Iman Dillard. I’m an upcoming artist in Nashville, TN. Originally from Kansas City, Missouri. I’ve been apart of the arts my entire life.. things like dance, ballet, musical plays, drill team, etc were really big in my childhood. I grew up with three older sisters, so as you can imagine there were many catty fights in that household. Outside of dance and music.. from an early age I knew I was spiritually gifted. Gifted to see beyond the naked eye.. as I’ve gotten older my gifts have grown and matured as well. I created a tarot business, DivineVisionsTarot, and it is flourishing. I’ve had to start completely over on my path multiple times.. which has taught me tenacity and resilience. For someone like myself it’s not easy to just bust right in the door.. there are certain barriers that I must get over first.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is that I can be me.. however that looks like. I can simply be myself. Whether or not someone accepts it .. I still have the choice to be Iman. I can make a mistake, but I can also reflect and fix it. I can inspire others to do the same as well.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal.. my mission.. my drive on this journey is to be example not only for myself, but for others. You can live your dreams, you can accomplish your biggest goals with real hard work. You don’t have to cheat yourself to get to where you want to be. Trusting in yourself & being in alignment is such a huge game changer. With understanding and love .. the world can be changed for the better.
