We recently connected with ILLbyNas and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, ILLbyNas thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Once I found out my creative path was drawing it came organically for the most part. I drew whatever was around me, until I found my style! I give my parents a lot of the credit though, my Pops pushed me further into my craft no doubt! From telling me to only draw with pens instead on pencils, teaching me that If i made a mistake I had to fix it. Besides learning from them, I studied from Artists and Artwork that I seen around me.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Wholeness everyone my name is Nas a.k.a iLLbyNas “illustrated by Nas” I’m a born and raised self taught Artist from Cleveland, Ohio. I’m known for my “Antennas On Errything” signature/brand! I started my Art business in 2017, doing Murals and Logos for businesses around the city. Later on I got a chance to meet some local creatives, and got the opportunity to do some Art Shows in 2021 and 2022. Now I’m currently running an Auto-body Customizing shop with my Pops!
My style is influenced mainly from the Hip Hop culture! The freedom to create on any and everything, turning nothing into something most definitely inspired me! i use different methods creating my art pieces, like hand painting to spray painting! Lately a lot of my work has been Digital, but I never had a set in stone process to be honest ! I like learning different things, so I constantly change my art style and how I approach projects. I never wanted to lock my creativity into just one way.
Im still walking out my art path figuring out the best routes for me, but I’m not rushing it!
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Yeayep! What’s keeping me in drive mode 24/7 is making sure I help further my family business! My goal always been to own an all in one building, with enough space to do all my crafts in. Might sound funny, but having a shop the size of “West Coast Customs” is the mission my way! The ability to create art projects and customize cars all under one roof keeps me moving.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Overall learning myself watching my growth alongside my craft is the best part for me. Just the whole being able to have the freedom to create my own world is a golden feeling ! Beside that I’ll say having a support team, people that keep you motivated is a major reward in my eyes.
