We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ilhui Hernandez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ilhui, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
I was born in a country facing significant environmental challenges. My deep love for nature instilled in me a sense of responsibility and purpose to dedicate my life to biology, sustainability, and environmental education. In my early years, I worked with rural communities and people advocating for sustainability and wildlife conservation.
Later, I left my homeland and lived in various countries. These experiences exposed me to diverse cultures, allowing me to observe the different ways of living. It helped me understand the contrasts between thriving societies and those struggling with challenges in healthcare systems, environmental degradation, and the fundamental pillars of society.
I realized that no matter where we are, solving environmental problems begins with healing ourselves first. The core of society is the individual, and if the individual is not well, it is difficult for other aspects of life to be in harmony. We need to redesign our food systems, counteract our sedentary lifestyles, and reevaluate what truly matters for a fulfilling, enriching life and longer lifespan—everything is interconnected.”

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a biologist with an MSc in Biomaterials Engineering. My journey has taken me through various countries, ultimately settling in the U.S. Over the years, I’ve worked on multiple sustainability projects and companies and gained insights from some of the most forward-thinking business models focused on holistic impact.
After moving to Finland, my studies in biomaterials engineering deepened my understanding of the connection between sustainable societies and thriving ecosystems. This foundation inspired me to create content that raises awareness about longevity, sustainability, health, and wellness. I also founded ‘Longevity for All,’ an organization dedicated to promoting these practices and making them accessible to everyone, especially the Latino community.
At the core of my work is the belief that by addressing fundamental habits—those that enable people to become the best versions of themselves—we can elevate not only individuals but also the communities we live in.
By doing so, we can collectively advance society towards a better, more sustainable future.”

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Living in different countries teaches resilience in ways that few other experiences can. Each transition brings its own set of challenges, including adapting to new cultures, learning new languages, and constantly stepping out of one’s comfort zone. It’s in those moments out of comfort that resilience is forged.
What I’ve learned is that consistency is the cornerstone of success, and your mindset is key. How you choose to allocate your energy, especially when faced with obstacles, is what ultimately builds character. Each challenge I’ve encountered has strengthened my resolve and given me a deeper understanding of both myself and the world around me.

If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
No, I would enjoy the same journey! I believe that every experience we have in life, along with our unique qualities, is what makes us special. At certain moments, the path may not seem clear or connected, but I’ve learned to trust that all the dots align at certain point and it is an “aha moment” . It’s the journey, with all its twists and turns, that shapes who we are and gives us the opportunity to bring our unique gifts to the world.
