We caught up with the brilliant and insightful IiiYansaje T. Muse a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
IiiYansaje, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I knew when I was was a child that I wanted to make a living creating, but I wasn’t sure if it was possible. I never saw myself doing just one profession. I always saw my professional life as a mosaic, an infusion of many gifts into one. I can admit that I wasn’t specific. I had more of a “What does God/Goddess want me to do with my time here?” …kind of approach. Some of my natural gifts and my dreams went hand in hand. Other gifts awakened in perfect, divine timing. I knew my life would be revolved around literature and creation. It was the broadcasting and spiritualist part I didn’t see coming. I learned early to keep my dreams to myself, so that people would not project their impossibilities on me. It all manifested, but in a way I never expected.
Writing is a skill that I jokingly like to say I brought with me at birth. Libraries were my kryptonite as a child, and I quickly learned to write like I read. I recall telling people that I wanted to be a journalist when I grew up. It was realistic and half-true. I had other talents that I wanted to service the world with…but again, I didn’t now how it was going to happen. In my school daze, I wrote for my both my high school and college newspapers. In my community, I wrote for many local print publications. I became a self published author, and started several blogs dedicated to my spiritual practices in nature based faith. I was willing to work odd jobs to keep my dreams alive. No matter what I was doing to make ends meet, I always made time for my craft. I silently stepped out on faith, and watched the magic unfold.
I wandered into radio broadcasting and spiritual work organically, and it was through these mediums that I discovered the power of my voice. Radio came in 2004, spiritual work in 2014. Priestesshood came in 2017, and it all from holding on to my dreams, stepping out on faith, and allowing my path to be divinely guided. This way of life brought out the best in me, and I knew I wanted to be my best in life, and inspire others to do the same. Now, my various means of creation work together.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am just a simple, southern girl turned woman….who dared to dream and follow her spirit. I reached this point by process of elimination and I got into my craft through prayer, and allowing myself to be led. Today, I am an oratory counselor, intuitive life coach (I don’t like the term “psychic” much.) This came as an element of surprise on a professional level, but I should have saw it coming. I say this because no matter what odd job I was working, people were always coming to me for advice. This journey led to my priestesshood into the Orisa Oya, the feminine force of nature that brings changes. I provide sound advice to people based on spirituality and the energetic root to the issue. Once the energetic root is discovered, I perform nature based light work to bring balance to the imbalances discovered. However, I can only take care on one person at a time that way. So, I created a series of blogs, published books, visual arts in the form of mystic gifts, and a 24/station radio station, 222.9 The Mothership. All of these are designed for people to enrich themselves spiritually, and to allow spirituality to be more enjoyably natural. What sets me apart from others? Well, I seek to sharpen the intuitions of all who tune in to me, so that they learn to use their gifts as I do mine. The aspect of my work that makes me most proud is that I have taken both the triumphs and challenges of my life experience and infused it into a healing medicine all its own. It creates its own experience, in perfect divine timing.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
This question humors me, as I have many stories of resilience…but I’ll share this one. I started my radio journey in 2004 at Prairie View A & M University. From there, I had a series of brief tenures as local city radio stations. None of them gave me the space, the chance, nor the stability I needed to really deliver my true message. All the while, I was undergoing intense inner changes that evolved my visions in broadcasting. One night, I was producing my show for the last radio station I worked at when one of the station’s engineers called me. He called to give me the heads up that the management and politics were changing at the station, and that I may need to find a new station in case my 2 hour show got canceled. In that moment, I decided to build my own radio platform, so that I would never again have to worry about having a space to share my messages. With that in mind, I built my own radio station, where I can spread my wings 24/7….and be creatively governed by no one.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is waking up every day, knowing that I am living my divine purpose. I love all that I do, and it serves as affirmation that my years of struggle were not in vain. They were preparations for greatness. Now I can use my creations to manifest enjoyable spirituality while using my struggles to inspire others to hang in there!
