We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Igor Lekue. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Igor below.
Igor, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
It all started during the pandemic, in my country we were confined and I was also convalescing from a hip operation, which left me with a lot of free time. I started watching relaxing videos on YouTube about people walking through cities or nature and car rides, train rides… and I liked the format. I saw that most of these videos were recorded in well-known areas and large world capitals and I thought to myself… why not do something like this in my own way and at a more local level? And that’s when I started to find out about the necessary equipment, the edition and the functioning of the platform for the publication of the videos. I had time to train myself well in this regard as I had a lot of free time to take it easy.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
At first I started all this as a hobby, I took my time to create a brand, shape the channel and above all expand my knowledge about recording and editing in the 4K format. I knew that I wanted to show through my camera what a driver sees when he visits different places, but I wanted to do it well and with the most realistic format possible. I did many tests before putting everything into operation and used various types of cameras, various positions, different formats… until I found the one that convinced me the most. Once I had what I wanted to offer, all I had to do was hit the road and record the places that seemed most interesting to me near my surroundings.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Without a doubt, the biggest challenge I have had since I opened the YouTube channel has been the trip to India. There, life itself is very different from how we live it in Europe or America, things work very differently. I was about to give up since I saw it as impossible to record in such difficult environments for a non-Indian person, I remember that for a couple of days I hired a taxi driver to simply walk with me through all the streets of Mumbai, it seemed to me that I was in a real jungle It is something that must be experienced. finally I summoned all the courage possible and rented a car and I went into both those big cities and less populated areas. It was a personal challenge that I will never forget.
Do you have any stories of times when you almost missed payroll or any other near death experiences for your business?
I have had a few moments in which I have seen myself very to the limit and I have been about to give up. I remember recording in Switzerland, with very bad weather, I found myself isolated and trapped in the snow on a mountain and with the car stuck… I wondered if it was really worth going through that… Also in Thailand recording in some areas Inhospitable north, I had a mechanical problem with the car and I had practically no one for many kilometers around… I had to ask for help from the peasants who, by the way, behaved with me in an extraordinary way. in India I had a collision with a motorcycle and two people, which at first seemed serious and I had a really bad time… it wasn’t my fault but the situation almost overwhelmed me, finally everything could be solved in a more or less civilized way, those were very difficult times.
