We were lucky to catch up with IG Workshop Samantha and Renata recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi IG Workshop, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start big picture – what are some of biggest trends you are seeing in your industry?
Ig Workshop has been an operating interior design form for 8 years in Miami . We are seeing a huge boom in the Miami real estate market. With that, we are seeing a shift in design styles, budgets, and interpretation of miami architecture.
The migration coupled with increase of instagram as a sourcing tool has really changed the design narrative. Miami used to be an art deco haven, now we are seeing a much more natural approach to design. This refers to color palates, material selection, lighting selection etc. Everything is becoming more about bringing nature into the home. Warmer neutral tones, softer materials and less use of Lacquer.
IG Workshop, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
IG workshop was formed in 2012 as a partnership between two New Yorker designers that moved here around the same time. Since then Samantha has partnered with Renata, originally from Ecuador by way of Madrid and Argentina.
Together Samantha and Renata have brought a global aesthetic to their brand and have travelled the world sourcing for their clients.
Ig Workshop is constantly evolving their style to adapt to clients needs, trends, and an ever changing global directive.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
In 2020 many small businesses were left to face the challenges of the Pandemic. when we first went into lock down we started to panic and thought how unfortunate it would be to have built up our brand and worked so hard only to go out of business. Instead our industry saw a huge boom because the population was sitting at home thinking what can I do to make my space more enjoyable.
This came with its own challenges, we had to get right back to the office, hire more talent, and try to take on all the projects coming our way. To say we were not prepared was an understatement. The ripple effects of the pandemic keep throwing us curve balls. Now we are dealing with supply chain issues and too much work for all our subcontractors.
We are doing our best to ride the wave and just continue to grow.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Social Media has big a big factor in the growth of our business. The growth of our account was completely natural which shocked both of us. We are constantly looking on instagram for product and inspiration, when we see something we love we reach out to the vendor or designer to let them know. From there we have sparked many design conversations and gained a lot of followers.
Our advise to people starting out their accounts would be follow people you really admire and don’t be afraid to reach out to them or comment on their beautiful work. The more you engage the more naturally you will grow.
