Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ifeoma King. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
About 10 years ago I officially started my journey towards being an artist. I began taking college courses and eventually graduated with a Fine Arts education degree. I have been involved in the arts for a long time and have always had a passion for creating. I have been an art advocate and have had many opportunities to share the love I have for the arts. As an artist, I focus on creating artworks that focus on bringing my viewers to a place of remembrance and wonder through symbolic imagery and elegant vintage landscapes. Although I love painting, it isn’t the only medium I enjoy working with. I also love to do pencil and pen drawings. I am most proud of my Biblical Botanicals and Biblical Animals Series. These are very special to me as they have not only launched me back into selling my artwork, but each one carries significant and symbolic meaning. For me, my goal is to create art that people would love to hang in their homes not only because they like my art, but also because it means something to them personally.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, I think the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is when the parts of my artistic vision start to finally piece together. I feel like when that happens, it encourages me to keep going and stretching myself to take risks.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
As an artist, I do believe that there are moments when individuals may assume that I can do it all. When I say all, I mean that I am experienced in drawing or painting every subject in every genre or style of art. Even sometimes, I’m assumed to just enjoy it all. The reality for me is that I don’t enjoy doing every form or style of art, even if I can do it. Many artists tend to focus and specialize in certain areas and have developed a style that they enjoy and want to pursue. When asked to do commissions, I’d hope the one interested is asking because they see the style of art that I do and like it the way that it is.
