We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Iesha Rosenboro. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Iesha below.
Iesha , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear the backstory of how you established your own practice.
Starting the H.E.R.E. Center was a challenging experience for me, but I knew I had to rely on God and become self-sufficient. As a First Generation World Changer/Entrepreneur, I have become accustomed to taking challenges head-on. During this process, I faced numerous hurdles, such as learning about business taxes from the IRS, Maryland’s business laws, the Secretary of State, and connecting with the City Council and various community partners. Despite feeling like “just another black girl with big dreams to change the world,” I was determined to succeed.
I refused to let negative thoughts hold me back and instead took control of my fate. Gradually, I learned the ropes of starting a business by partnering with a peer in graduate school. What initially seemed like a daunting proposition turned out to be one of my greatest blessings. Today, I am proud of my achievements and grateful to the people who believed in me and helped me along the way.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
This a story of remarkable resilience. In 2010, I embarked on the journey of pursuing my Master’s program, fueled by passion and determination. Two years later, in 2012, I embraced a new chapter as I married. The pursuit of academic excellence continued, but in 2013, just three classes away from graduation, life took an unexpected turn – I discovered I was pregnant.
With unwavering dedication to parenthood, I took a break from my studies, navigating the challenges and joys of raising a family. The path, however, presented further challenges as I found myself pregnant again in 2015 and 2019. The financial strain was undeniable, but my spirit remained unbroken.
Recognizing my struggle, my school extended a lifeline – an opportunity to complete my degree. In the face of adversity, I seized this chance with resilience and determination. The following year marked the culmination of my academic journey as I proudly graduated, ready to embark on a new chapter in counseling.
This story is a testament to the strength within, the ability to persevere through unexpected twists and the triumph that comes with resilience. It’s not just a narrative of overcoming obstacles but a celebration of the indomitable spirit that propels us forward.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
My Journey of Growth
Growing up in a poverty-stricken area as an African-American female, I faced numerous challenges that shaped my perspective on success. However, as I journeyed towards becoming a successful therapist and entrepreneur, I realized that there were certain lessons I had to unlearn in order to thrive in both my personal and professional life.
One of the first lessons I had to unlearn was the belief that my background defined my future. While my upbringing undoubtedly influenced my outlook, I came to understand that it didn’t dictate my potential for success. By unlearning this limiting belief, I opened myself up to new possibilities and opportunities that I might have otherwise overlooked.
Another crucial lesson I had to unlearn was the idea that success was solely dependent on individual effort. In reality, success often requires collaboration and support from others. By unlearning the notion of self-reliance and embracing the concept of community, I was able to build a strong network of mentors, peers, and supporters who have been instrumental in my growth and development.
Additionally, I had to unlearn the habit of putting others’ needs before my own. As a therapist and entrepreneur, it’s essential to prioritize self-care and well-being in order to be effective in helping others. By unlearning the belief that self-care is selfish, I have been able to maintain a healthy work-life balance and approach my work with renewed energy and enthusiasm.
Finally, I had to unlearn the fear of failure. In my journey, I’ve come to see failure not as a sign of weakness, but as an opportunity for growth and learning. By unlearning the stigma associated with failure, I have been able to take risks, embrace challenges, and ultimately achieve greater success in both my personal and professional endeavors.
In conclusion, my journey of unlearning has been transformative, allowing me to break free from limiting beliefs and embrace new ways of thinking and being. By unlearning the lessons that held me back, I have been able to step into my role as a successful therapist and entrepreneur with confidence, purpose, and a renewed sense of possibility.
