Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Iesha Jah. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Iesha, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think it takes a very brutal amount of honesty because why do you want success and what does success look like for you. for me success is freedom. freedom of doing what i love and the financial freedom of doing what i want.
Iesha, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I honestly jumped into the makeup artistry world blindly. My bestfriend and I at the time was scrolling through instagram and saw all the makeup girls serving looks with the famous IG baddie eyebrows and highlighter. i knew i wanted to be able to accomplish that look i was 14 years old. i bought a eyebrow kit from a local dollar store with drug store concealer and i practiced everyday. i fell IN LOVE with wanting to perfect my craft. i started watching Ms Aaliyah Jay a self taught makeup artist on youtube. I really got the confidence to start doing my whole face. after i felt confident enough to accomplish a whole look on myself i begin to do others i did my first client in 11th grade for senior photos. i was so proud of myself. fast forward 3 years later i am still striving to be the successful Mua/Entrepreneur i know im capable of being. What sets me apart from others is i genuinely care about people and how they feel on the inside. i know people trust Makeup artist for most important events. that creates a lot of pressure but make me wanna go EVEN HARDER to make my clients happy and myself happy with the outcome. i want each and every person who have purchased from me and to those who will be potential clients, followers and fans in the near future that i thank you so much for your support i can guarantee you i will constantly grow and continue to do my best.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Recently i decided to take a pivot into student mentoring i have this passion to help people and i know i can make a difference in others lives. i never was a mentor to anyone so i’m hoping for the best with this new job. i still love makeup and my entrepreneurial spirit still lives within so i will be working on my business part time until my business becomes a steady income.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn that success means perfection or doing something right the first time. i had very high expectations of myself Going into the makeup & business world. i thought clientele was going to be booming i thought i was going to get sold out of every product when i added Lashes & Lipgloss to my business and when those things didn’t happen it was like a gut punch to my self esteem. i had to unlearn that entrepreneur lifestyle is NOT easy and instagram makes it look good. You really gotta put in the work. working for yourself is HARD and working for others is HARD choose your hard.
