We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Iesha Campbell a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Iesha , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
In the year 2015 I was getting my own taxes prepared from one of the best Mrs. Cassandra Washington. While sitting there I asked her if she would ever teach others to prepare taxes. She stated that she have thought about it however she never put it into motion. I told her to think hard and if she decides to move forward I would like to be the first to enroll. Fast forward to 2017 Mrs. Washington decided to have her very first tax class. Of course, I enrolled and made lots of sacrifices daily between working full time and going to class at night. I stayed the course and worked hard. The class was about 6 months so by the end I was ready and prepared for my very first tax season. I started off with 5 clients my first year which is great for a first time tax preparer. I now have my very own tax business “Campbell’s Elite Tax Services” and have over 50 clients at this time. I am still a work in progress however my business is blessed and flourishing year by year. At Campbell’s Elite Tax Services we offer virtual tax preparation, personal credit repair, building business credit services and business structuring. My goal is to build an empire and be a one stop shop which will happen.
Iesha , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Iesha Campbell and I am a devoted fiancee and mother of 3 beautiful children. Not only are my clients my clients but they are my family. I go above and beyond for each and every one of them to be able to give them the satisfaction that they are well deserved. Outside of tax season if they have any questions or need anything to be discussed I make myself readily available to be able to assist them. I keep my clients updated on anything that may benefit them that comes out whether it is by my post on social media or I may reach out directly. My work speak for itself I do my best to get my clients the maximum refund and I make it easy for them to receive their funds once it is released from the IRS. Within the next year I will be offering cash advances outside of what is provided during tax season to be able to help clients through the duration of the year and not only at tax time.
We offer personal tax preparation, self employment tax prep, credit repair, business funding, business credit and business structuring .
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
My second year as a tax preparer, I fell into depression due to family issues and I felt hopeless. With it being my second year I didn’t have much clients at all and that really pushed me to the limit. One day during one of my dark moments I had to really sit down and think about all the hard work and determination that I had put in to get my business up and running. With the help of my mentor Mrs. Cassandra Washington I realized that I really had to put my life back together which I did. I picked up all the broken pieces and repaired everything one by one. Since then I have advanced in every way possible with my business. Blessed is definitely an understatement. To those that feel that you are at the end of the tunnel just hold on, Prayer definitely changes things!
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele is by being transparent. Clients want to know if their tax preparer is providing them with the maximum refund so they ask many questions. The most questions that I have been asked about is the bank fees. Unfortunately, as the tax preparer I cannot change the fees that is being charged by the bank however what I can do is let my client know why they are being charged each fee and what it covers.
The next most effective strategy is to actively engage with your customers. Me personally I am very shy but when it comes to Campbell’s Elite Tax Services I will talk all day long. I like to talk to my clients and many of them has become my tax family. If the clients realize that their preparer is engaging with them and showing that they care, more than likely they will return year after year.
