We were lucky to catch up with Idongesit Harrison recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Idongesit thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project yet is “Contentment”. As an Artist I always wanted to do more, like to make my drawings very hyper realistic as if what I have been doing was not enough. I was beating myself up and it got to a point I started hating my drawings.
I was unhappy and depression wanted to set in. I did not want that and I know I was hard on myself.
I wanted to be happy and one of the reasons someone can experience true happiness is through being contented so I created this piece “Contentment” to remind me that I need to love and appreciate myself for the hard work and be thankful for where I am and what I have.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Idongesit Harrison but I prefer to be called Idy Harrison (Idy is short for Idongesit) I am 26 years old, an Artist and a Nigerian. I have been drawing my whole life, basically it was just for fun because drawing is what interest me so I didn’t bother developing my skills Until 2018. I started looking for tutorials, and meeting people to gain more knowledge and I have really improved since then till date.
I am someone that love realism so much because apart from being creative, it shows how much time and patience the artist has put in to the work so I always try to capture every details I can see and in my own way when drawing to make it realistic as possible. I work with charcoal and graphite pencils.
In commission piece, one of the most important thing am always concern about is the resemblance. Generally art is beautiful no matter the technique used, but from my experience, if it doesn’t resemble who or what you are drawing, I don’t think the client will really appreciate. So my main aim is always the resemblance.
My works or projects are genuine and the ideas revolves around me and my environment. I don’t try to copy someone’s work or idea though sometimes you found out that your new idea or concept was done by another artist already. In this case, I can either try to modify it or just do it anyways because of what it means to me.
I am always very proud of each piece I make because it gives another opportunity to tell a story to the world.
Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I think NFTs gives artist opportunity to share and sale artwork in the digital world especially digital artist. I can say that NFTs is good, though I have not minted any of my work yet.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The rewarding aspect of being an Artist is the satifaction that comes after creating something from an empty surface and the opportunity of sharing my ideas, my feelings for the world to see.
