Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Idlb Stands For Irana Douer & Luciana Berneri. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
IDLB , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
In our business, we stand out because of our deep connection to the essence of art and craftsmanship, and our unwavering commitment to reclaiming traditional trades and handmade creations.
Our selection focuses on works that are exclusevly created in Argentina, celebrating the richness of our traditions and the diversity of artisanal techniques. Unlike other businesses, we don’t just design objects; we promote a movement aimed at preserving and revitalizing artisanal crafts, directly supporting local artists and craftsmen/women.
We create connections, preserve traditions, and support local talent, offering a unique and meaningful experience for those who value authenticity and soulful craftsmanship.

IDLB , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
IDLB stands for Irana Douer and Luciana Berneri. Both of us come from the art world, having participated in the international art market and curation, working closely with galleries, residencies, and museums. At the same time, we were in contact with artists who created other objects beside their main body of work—pieces we considered incredibly valuable. We wanted people not to be afraid when approaching to a piece of artwork so our challenge was to have original artwork and unique pieces at fair and accessible prices. Craftsmanship and national identity have always been a priority for us, right from the start. So we decided not only to include artwork but utilitarian pieces as well. Unique, one of a kind, handmade pieces (from stoneware to jewelry)
We began by organizing pop-up events, and shortly after, the pandemic hit. Despite it being a challenging time, our business grew significantly during that period. People were spending more time at home and began to understand that investing in their homes was essentially investing in themselves. Living with beautiful objects improved their quality of life. Having your breakfast in amazing handmade plates and cups is not the sane experience as having it in regular supermarket ones. This realization resonated deeply with our mission, and it fueled the growth of our venture even during uncertain times.
Little by little, we grew and expanded both the quantity and quality of our products, as well as our physical space.

Can you talk to us about manufacturing? How’d you figure it all out? We’d love to hear the story.
We don’t produce the objects ourselves, but we take great care in curating them. It’s very important to us that the artists are from Argentina, that everything is handmade, and that each piece is unique. We started with just a few artists we knew personally, and little by little, we discovered new talents. Artists recommended other artists to us, and we spent countless hours searching for artisans who create distinctive pieces. For us, it’s not about quantity—it’s about ensuring that each piece stands out and shines on its own.
As we began to incorporate new artists, we also started to explore new techniques, and through this process, we learned about a wide variety of artistic and craft methods. By engaging in conversations with the artists, we gained insight into how each product is made, the different materials used, and the diverse ways of creating. This ongoing dialogue has not only enriched our understanding but also deepened our appreciation for the craftsmanship behind every piece.
At the same time, we share all this information with our buyers. We believe it’s important for them to know the work and dedication behind each piece.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
For us, the connection with our clients is very important, but even more so is the relationship with our artists and suppliers. We believe that being transparent, fair, and respectful of each person’s work and vision is crucial. Over time, our clients become friends. They know that our business is honest, that we have a very personal and distinct curation and aesthetic, different from the rest. They come to IDLB because they know they’ll always find something that will surprise them. Since all the pieces are unique, the store is constantly rotating. What you see today won’t be the same as what you’ll see a month from now and that is always exciting!
