Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Idasia Sellers. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Idasia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.
February 24,2023 was a real victory to me. This was the day we closed on a very difficult transaction for a first time home buyer. In the beginning everything was moving very smoothly until things took a turn. The inspection on the house went great but the appraisal for the house came back almost 30k under the accepted and asking price. This left my client stuck with having to bring almost 30k to the table at closing. We sent the appraiser what we acknowledged as a possible mistake in the estimated price he were concluding for the house. He absolutely gave us a hard time by not acknowledging nor agreeing with our theories which left us stuck again. Thankfully the original home owner purchased this home under an assumable loan which allowed my client to simply go to the bank he purchased the home through and take over the loan. That was or seemed like another lengthy process because my client basically had to start all over with a new loan processor and bank. I’m honestly thankful my client had the amount of patience given though I know she was a nervous wreck during the process. My client really wanted this house and so I fought really hard to make sure she got it. I’m also thankful for the sellers agent because we both put our heads together in this. To add to the great news my client interest rate was locked in at 3 percent at closing which saved her thousands of dollars on her mortgage payments!! This transaction took a lot out of me lol but it felt good to hand my client her keys and I’m looking forward to working this hard again with another client!!

Idasia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
First off thank you Canvas Rebel for the interview invitation. I was excited to hear from you all again and with a new publication platform!
For those who didn’t catch the first interview with Voyage Michigan magazine. My name is Idasia Sellers, born and raised in Detroit, Michigan home of the Motor-city. I began my Real Estate journey in the middle of 2021, completing my entry the beginning of 2022. I help organize transactions with people who’s looking to purchase or sell property. I negotiate on behalf of my client, helping them land the best prices and location in a consistently changing market. I’m learning problem solving is an very important skill to have in Real Estate because its VERY easy for a deal to fall apart if you don’t know how to hold it together. I believe what sets me apart is my pace. I am not in a rat race but rather I choose to keep working on my discipline and consistency in this business. I want to build something with sustainability and substance, something that will last and move the way I envision it 5 to 10 years from now. In addition to this, I don’t want to just be a Realtor, like sell houses, make my commission, save a couple bucks and that’s it. I want to build a business that will serve my clients fully down to the renters. I want to connect, network, partner up, something bigger than myself that will benefit a great amount of people. What I am most proud of is how fast my first sell came and it was a listing. I completely walked into this industry by faith not knowing how it was going to start or turn out I just knew that I desired to start. I just began marketing myself and letting friends and family know that I were entering into the Real Estate industry. What I want potential clients to know is that rather your buying or selling it is a process . Prepare your patience, be open to guidance/advice from me because it is for your best interest. And to remember we are in this process together. So its like taking care of you like I would take care of myself. I really want to stress this to first time home buyers because I truly understand the excitement yet the fear of making your first home purchase. Its a huge leap of faith. I like to schedule consultations where we can sit down and I listen to what your needs are, where your at mentally about it and your level of motivation that way I understand where to go from there and what to advise you.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy to growing my clientele is my active listening. Coming into this industry and going through a few trial and errors I quickly learned that my listening skills weren’t that good. Most people want to talk about themselves is what I learned and so when I am doing a consultation that is what I am allowing to happen with clients who’s looking to sell and purchase their home. Of course I guide with questions…… and I am only asking questions……..but mostly I’m listening. They all have reasons of their own and that does help me as an agent understand their timing in moving and their WHY. One of my clients, who was looking to sell her home went through a life changing situation which was a break up. After applying my active listening I understood her WHY and REASON of wanting to sell her home and move out of state. Had I not listened and talked more than she did……trying to just sell a home, I would not have understood her motivation, timing, or reasoning.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I have no idea where to start because I’ve been quietly going through a lot of uncomfortable changes and lessons in such a short period of time. Like… I feel life itself is constantly challenging me to learn and grow. And in my deepest core that’s what I want its just at times I wish I can resist because unlearning lessons is kinda like the process you go through when entering boot camp for military. Everything you knew is being stripped and broken down to be rebuilt. That’s the process of boot camp… they break the civilian down to build them up into a soldier. Like all these realizations and changes consistently happening all at once. And at times it feels like its pressure with no let up. The biggest lesson I had to unlearn though is control. I’m truly learning to let go of my control, while finding contentment in what things are and where I am… so I can keep moving forward. Do you get it? ….I’ve had to accept some situations surrounding my life for what they are, while understanding my reality of where I was and what it was truthfully. I can only speak for me but there’s times I wanted things to be different rather with things or people and the fact it didnt turn out that way I struggled with accepting so I did things to try to change the narrative that fit the story i wanted for my life only creating a longer story and a scarier picture lol
