Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Iciar Vega de Seoane. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Iciar thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
Recently, last May, I selfpublished a photobook, called El Volcán Azul (The Blue Volcano). It is special for me. The initial idea of the project was born from a personal search for peace and happiness. For this I tried to identify what things make me feel frustrated with myself, what my goals are, what I try to achieve in my day to day life. And which of those goals were motivated by the desire to always possess more than what one has, more than what one needs to live and which of those goals were motivated by the norms of social status, or what is normatively understood as success and wealth.
This helped me a lot to focus my existence on things that make me happy and peaceful, that have nothing to do with money, possessions or status.
And it materialised in a photobook, and a poem that speaks of an imaginary paradise.
Where there is no discomfort in longing for more than one has, more than one needs to live. An imaginary territory populated by nature, exuberance and colour, which has something of a delirium, of travel and hallucination.

Iciar , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My work is aimed at lovers of art, photography and photobooks. I believe that my greatest professional attributes are creativity, imagination, resilience, the strength to keep going despite the difficulties.
In the last few years I have self-published the photobooks ”El Volcán Azul (The Blue Volcano)” (2024)
‘’La Tercera Persona (The Third Person)‘’(2022), ‘Lucero’ (2020), ‘’Guerrero Nonato (Unborn Warrior)’ (2018), “¿Eres una chica? (Are you a girl?” (2017), “Desmemorias” together with Mon Magán (2017), and ’Una canción en francés (A song in French)’ (2016).

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
In my personal opinion I believe that art and culture should be given the place in society that it deserves, that people should be aware that art enriches the soul and opens people’s mentality, intellectually and emotionally. And that artists need to live and have decent living conditions and for that they need to be supported. It doesn’t matter if the artist is fashionable, but if his work stirs things in you, that’s what makes it valuable.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Buying art from well-known artists but also from unknown artists that stimulate you, while ignoring the trends.
