We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ibti a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ibti, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
Well, of course! Finding joy in my role as an artist is something I hold dear, even though it’s not always a smooth ride. I can’t picture myself doing anything else. I don’t really need to ponder what a regular job would be like, as I’ve already been there ! haha. Before, and even while i was already working as a photographer, when I wasn’t making a living from my art. I would get pretty bored though because I didn’t have access to a computer or camera while working. So I would grab a sketchbook and let my imagination flow through drawings whenever I had some free time.
Right now, trying to envision a life with the whole nine-to-five routine? Absolutely impossible. I need to travel, to be on the move, to feed my inspiration. I’m in a constant state of creation, drawing from my surroundings and capturing photos. That’s why I need a dash of novelty every single day. Otherwise, routine becomes a creativity killer.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a french Artist, self taught Photographer & Creative Director and describe my work as a combination of Art, Fashion and Cinema with a touch of Surrealism and Cyberpunk. I am a former private stylist, and quit my job to start photography about 5 years ago. Best decision I have ever made.
I now mostly work with Artists, dancers, singers and brands but I also do photoshoots for anyone who want new pictures for their book for example or just for the pleasure of having cool shots.
My goal is to push creativity beyond limits and make my clients happy, simple as that.
On the other hand, I am specialized in Luxury Hotels and Interior Design Photography but also Architecture and Real Estate.
I have worked with five stars hotels and palaces in France and Canada before dedicating myself entirely to artistic photography. But I intend to get back to it soon as I am really passionate about architecture and design.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I have often received messages from people thanking me and saying, “Thanks for whisking me away from my daily grind, it helps me, etc.” I reckon that is what I find the most rewarding. If I can sprinkle a little positivity through my art, well then, i’m the happiest on earth.
On top of that, I just love it when I capture people through my lens and see their faces light up as they see themselves in photos screaming “wow ! i’m actually beautiful !” and i would scream back at them “OF COURSE YOU ARE !!!” haha
I want them to feel beautiful and secure with themselves while having the best time.
THAT is beyond priceless, witnessing their joy makes me feel so happy and proud.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Well, unfortunately most of the time, if you’re not born with connections or family privilege, breaking through is a tougher nut to crack, even if you’ve put in years of study and you’re dripping with talent. I’m lucky enough to know some jaw-dropping artists, not to mention all those I stumble upon every day on social media, wrestling to make it in this field despite their massive talent!
Society could really level the playing field and provide transparent support for these artists. Opening doors for everyone, regardless of background. Encouraging initiatives to nurture budding talents, arranging exhibitions or events that are open to all, and crafting inclusive artistic education programs would surely contribute to cultivating the most flourishing creative landscape. Inclusivity is key.
