We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ibrahim Adele (Big Tunzy) a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tunzy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s jump back to the first dollar you earned as a creative? What can you share with us about how it happened?
To be honest, it gave me validity. Earning that first dollar provided a sense of validation for my creative efforts. It signifies that someone appreciates and values my work enough to pay for it, which was a powerful affirmation of my talent and creativity.
Tunzy, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
To put it simply, I absolutely adore music. I have had a personal relationship with music my entire life; I’ve made it my purpose in life to share my love for music with everyone I meet. I got into the industry before realizing it; it hit me when it became a responsibility, and I’m glad I accepted it. I became more focused, determined, and confident in my craft. It evolved from being just a hobby to a talent that turned into a job. Not only do I enjoy djying, but I also love coming up with concepts for my own personal events. There’s nothing I love more than when all my work comes together.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Supporting artists and creatives is a collective responsibility, and it can have a profound impact on the culture and vibrancy of a society. It is essential to recognize that creativity is an essential part of what makes us human, and nurturing it benefits everyone. In my opinion, these are some of the ways the society can support an artist :
* Recognition and Respect
* Financial Support
* Education and Training
* Collaboration and Networking
* Copyright and Intellectual Property Rights
* Accessible Spaces
* Mental Health and Well-being
* Media and Public Engagement
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect is deeply personal and the feeling of archiving my individual goals. It drives my motivations forward, and the nature of my creative work. It’s the combination of these rewards that makes a career in the arts so fulfilling and unique.
