We were lucky to catch up with Ian Williams recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ian, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
I wanted a name that easily stated what it is that I do. Your Table Your Chef! Private chef services was born. I wanted to leave it open in case I wanted to hire other chefs to join me. Turns out, I prefer to just work alone.
Ian, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I worked in the restaurant industry for 25 years. I started getting tired of not being able to serve the best product possible because of food cost or restaurant’s standards. That is when I decided to start my own private chef business. Delivering the best possible ingredients and fine dining experience to my clients.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I have had to constantly pivot my business model. I started the business in 2016, in 2018 the area where I live and operate was devastated by Hurricane Michael. I had to pause business while rebuilding my life. Almost with no warning in 2020 the state shut down because of the threat of Covid-19. Social distancing and mandatory face masking became a way of life.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I post almost every dinner that I serve on social media. I used to think that it would help with customer confidence. I never dreamed that I would develop fans and have devout followers. I always post positive and happy things on social media. I try to never mix my personal with my business on social media.
