Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ian Michael. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ian, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry? Any stories or anecdotes that illustrate why this matters?
I think Corporate America forgets that music is art. I think they forget that inauthenticity can be sniffed out from miles away, and that riding trends isn’t always what’s going to work long term. Too many artists I see today are obsessed with “riding the wave” and sadly get washed ashore sooner than they need to instead of just making the music they truly love making. Sure there’s still money in music to an extent, but it’s been made best by musicians who live for the craft, not just to make “money moves”. I think putting the focus on moving the world around you with your art should be at the forefront.
Ian, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got into the industry through playing live music! A drummer, to be more specific. Through learning drums, I learned a lot about how to move people through music and what can be done to really make people resonate with what you play. Through playing live, I found a deep interest in messing around with all the other types of sounds that fill out a song, and it evolved into producing. I got a degree in Audio Production, and around the time COVID hit, I started working other artists to create some of their best songs!
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I know the mission would be to help as many artists as I can make their music resonate with the world and create musical legacies for them, and maybe myself in the process lol.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I think the main thing is knowing exactly what you want to communicate, and communicate it persistently. Through years of throwing spaghetti at a wall to see what sticks, I’ve found that when it comes to socials, once a noodle sticks, keep making that noodle, and and find ways to keep that noodle unique and fresh over time.
