We were lucky to catch up with Hyun Jung Lee recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hyun Jung, appreciate you joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
My journey with art started in childhood, when my passion for creativity first began. I always enjoyed dreaming up new ideas and turning them into tangible pieces. Sharing my creations with others always left me feeling happy and fulfilled.
As I grew up, I realized that I wanted to turn my passion into a profession that could inspire others. Graphic design felt like the perfect fit for me, enabling me to blend my creativity with practical skills and craft something truly meaningful. And now, I’m lucky enough to work as a professional designer, doing what I love every day.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hello, I’m Hyun Jung Lee, a graphic designer based in NYC. Currently, I’m working as a graphic designer at 2×4.The projects I usually work on include designing brand identities, digital and print media, as well as graphics for physical spaces. At 2×4, we collaborate with impactful cultural and commercial clients such as Prada, Miu Miu, Instagram, and Hyundai. Being part of these diverse projects for respected clients means a lot to me as a designer.
When I first came to NYC to study at School of Visual Arts, I was more interested in space and event design. However as I explored various design fields, I realized how important graphic design is across all the areas I found interesting, from flat design to spacial design. Getting into graphic design made me see that good design isn’t just about aesthetics; it demands strategic thinking and careful consideration.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The best part is being able to create unforgettable experiences, not just for ourselves, but for others who see our work too. One standout experience for me was working on an event design project with the team at 2×4, which took place in my hometown of Seoul, South Korea. Though I couldn’t be there in person to witness it, seeing the event unfold on social media and watching people have a great time in the photos was incredibly fulfilling. Being involved in such a meaningful project was truly rewarding for me as a designer.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My aim as a designer is to craft designs that not only captivate with their beauty but also resonate with meaningful ideas. Whether it’s in branding or other types of design projects, I want my work to inspire and bring joy to people worldwide. Also, I want to continue seeking new and exciting moments, consistently setting up new goals to stay true to my creative voice as a designer.
