We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Hyun Jeong. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Hyun below.
Hi Hyun, thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Since I was a child, I have always been passionate about creativity and art. I loved losing myself in books, imagining myself as a part of the stories, and being captivated by the beautiful illustrations. These childhood memories sparked a strong desire within me to pursue a creative path in life. When I moved to the U.S., my love for creativity only grew stronger. I realized that I didn’t just want to write stories; I wanted to bring them to life through visual art. Encouraged by this realization, I enrolled in an art school to pursue my passion. As I immersed myself in my studies, my love for art flourished. It became a steadfast flame within me, always reminding me that this path is my destined calling for the rest of my life.

Hyun, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Hyun (Seohyun Jeong), an Illustrator based in California. My artistic style is characterized by unique textures, creative shapes, and vibrant colors. I find inspiration in stories that reflect my own experiences and the people around me. While my art appeals to a wide range of viewers, I create picture books that evoke empathy and joy, aiming to connect with viewers on a deep level. My goal is to inspire and leave a lasting impression through storytelling and visual art. In addition to creating picture books, I also create illustrations that address social problems such as environmental pollution, animal abuse, and cultural differences. I use a playful and humorous approach to express these subjects because it helps the viewers understand their significance better and encourages awareness and positive change.

Is there a mission driving your creative journey?
My specific goal is to publish my own children’s book and collaborate with various brands, using my illustrations. I have a strong desire to write a story based on my childhood experiences and bring it to life through my artwork. I aim for my stories to deeply resonate with readers all over the world, enabling them to connect with the characters and themes in a way that sparks their imagination and empathy. Ultimately, I want to create a world where readers can escape, learn valuable lessons, and cultivate a lifelong love for reading and art.
Furthermore, I aspire to collaborate with like-minded brands to create impactful visual content that captivates both children and adults. By partnering with different companies, I hope to reach a broader audience and share the joy and wonder of storytelling through my artistic creations.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Being an artist is truly remarkable as it allows me to spread positivity and have a positive impact on people’s lives. I strongly believe that my creations can make a difference by fostering understanding among individuals. Empathy can sometimes be challenging when we haven’t experienced something ourselves. However, I am committed to being a voice for those who have endured hardships and sharing their stories with the world. Striving to strike that balance, I am dedicated to touching hearts with my creations and making a meaningful impact.
