We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Hypnotic a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hypnotic , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
There’s a lot of things I wish I did earlier, my music being one of them. It was always on the table of things I wanted to do, but I procrastinated so much for no good reason and I regret not starting as soon as possible.
Hypnotic , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Rafael Antonio Guerrero, but in this industry I go by Hypnotic. I was surrounded by music since a very young age and it’s been stuck with me ever since. I don’t really stick to one type of genre of music, I’m very versatile with my work. I create everything from Rap to R&B to country, electric, and I just recently started to dabble with Spanish music. This journey has been full of ups and downs. I’ve released work that doesn’t get the recognition i thought it deserved, but I’ve also put out work that’s gotten so much more recognition than I’ve expected. It feels good to know people hear my music and can relate to certain things I say, it also makes me proud to be able to help someone who lives five minutes away or someone who lives five states away. I just want my fans to know regardless of where we are, how far apart we are, that when they plug in their headphones I’ll be there for them, because with them hypnotic wouldn’t be here.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
When I first started I only had about 10 followers on Instagram. I tried my hardest to get the numbers up by adding new people, but it never worked. So, I started creating reels with short lyrics videos, and advertising my music on QR codes I was putting around town. I started seeing the numbers rise on both my social media and my music. I would recommend someone who’s trying to get noticed to invest in QR code stickers. It’s very convenient because everybody has a phone that takes pictures. Set the QR codes up at any location, gas stations, fast food restaurants, grocery stores, bus stops, and even colleges because, nine times out of ten someone is going to scan that sticker.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding thing as an artist is always and will forever be, my fans loving and appreciating the music I put out for them. Nothing feels better than getting recognized for the music you put out in the world. The feeling is amazing when somebody comes up to you, and pulls out their phone to show you that’s they’re streaming your music, it’s like is Christmas came early.
