Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Hussam Hamoush. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Hussam thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.
Back in the summer of 2018, I was working at a crappy job for a terrible boss. I had JUST started this job I mean like it was literally weeks into the job and the first two weeks were TRAINING. I remember butting heads a few times with my supervisor and just not getting a general good feeling about the entire practice. I was in charge of opening a new pharmacy and I was hired because of my experience and how important it was to me to be a part of the community in Frisco, TX.
I remember the day exactly. I just got home from a long day at work. My wife had a great dinner waiting for me (she knew how hard it had been for me), and I remember getting a call from my friend/attorney just to check on the new job for me. I told him everything. The struggles, the literal abuse, and how it wasn’t worth the money they were giving me.
That night we wrote up my resignation letter and I was ready to give it to that terrible boss the next day.
Wednesday morning, I went into work early. I got things started and waited for him to come in. It was tough being a pharmacy manager and then having the managing director with an office inside the pharmacy I was working at. I gave him my resignation right before I left for my break.
You know what happened? HE LAUGHED AT ME. I was kind enough to give him a two weeks notice and this dude literally laughed at me. I didn’t have another job lined up. I knew I wanted nothing to do with this job 4 weeks into it. Obviously they didn’t want me to finish my two weeks so I got a nice paid vacation.
LITERALLY the next day, I was accepted to work at a small pharmacy called Stonebriar Pharmacy as a pharmacy manager. It was a struggling store that didn’t have a lot going on for it. I worked and did the best I could do, but a year later the owners decided to shut their doors. That day in June of 2019, is when I decided to become an entrepreneur. I purchased the pharmacy in June 2019.
The scariest jump I have ever had to make in my professional career. You know what? I wouldn’t have it any other way. Almost 5 years later, we are still here and rocking it.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Take care of people and they will take care of you. Don’t just work for the dollar. I promise you the money will come behind it. In school we always focused on patient care. There was a lot of making sure that patients lead healthier lives. Yeah we can be clinicians and everything but how do we ensure that they want to come to ONLY you. Having an empathetic mindset and having a genuine care of people’s wellness will go a lot further than just worrying about the medications that their on. Put people first and they will put you first as well.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I would offer up my services to meet with high school students and parents. I was directly involved with teaching parents about the opioid epidemic and what are the signs of addiction. Along with counselors, we would help people find ways to get their students help when they need it. There are always city events that you can be a part of. A part of being a pharmacy owner and living in the same city is making sure you do events like that. Especially for free. Once you build that relationship with some of the leaders of your city, you will start to see how they will invite you to these events. And then you will become a staple within your own community.
