Hi Hunter, thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Phelps Room Designs was founded in February of 2021, after I decorated a room for a friend that went viral on Twitter. I soon realized that room designing was a gift of mine that could not only satisfy my creativity, but also make others happy in the process.
PRD specializes in providing our clients with the best romantic room experience and special celebration by offering exquisitely designed rose petals, balloons, lighting, and more to create a memorable occasion. As a business, we challenge ourselves to create the most unique room designs that make everyone smile!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Hunter Phelps and I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. I graduated from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business in May of 2021, where I majored in business administration and minored in entrepreneurship. In 2018, through my involvement with U of M’s optiMize student incubator program, I became the founder of Terry Lu Naturals, a natural hair and skin care company that creates dual-use products for men and women. Since then, I have worked hard to build up my brand and create and sell amazing products to customers. I’m also the founder of Phelps Room Designs, a new and upcoming romantic room decorating service. I use various items, such as rose petals, balloons and lighting to create a memorable occasion. In my spare time, I love to paint and sell my paintings through my third business, Hunter’s Palette. I enjoy playing with my dog, Harley, as well and going to listen to jazz music at different jazz clubs.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
When I first created Phelps Room Designs in February of 2021, in the first 6 months, I only had about 300 followers on Instagram. To help grow my social media presence, I begin recording and documenting all of my work and posting them in short second reels. Reels increase your chances of having strangers see your content due to the way the algorithm is built. I also began sending my posts out to everyone I followed and asked them to repost. As of November 2022, I am on my way to 50,000 followers. The biggest advice I can provide to those reading this, is that it is ok to ask strangers for help. They are more than willing to help you succeed you just have to be bold enough to ask. I will also encourage readers to record everything that you do for your brand. Even if you think it’s small, followers love to feel a part of the process. Finally, reels of 7-15 seconds are the way to go if you want to grow your business rapidly.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Social media has definitely been the most effective way to grow my clientele. On Instagram specifically, I post about 3 reels and one regular photo post a day. I have learned that the more you post throughout the day, the higher your engagement will increase because you can capture the attention of more people in a day.
