We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Hunter Hathaway a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hunter, appreciate you joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
Yes and no. I’ve had my moments where I just felt I started too soon and was forcing myself to put out everything I made even if I wasn’t happy with the design. So in that aspect I feel that it would have been better to wait so that I could develop more. I think that over the years I’ve been able to refine my skills and now I’m a lot happier with the pieces I’m producing. My goal for this year is to just keep pushing my brand as much as possible and really trying to get myself out there. Now that I know this is what I want to do with my time I just have to keep pushing towards it and supporting my goals.

Hunter, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hey Everyone, my name is Hunter Hathaway and I’m the creator behind The Divine Scorpion. For as long as I can remember I’ve always loved crafting. I love being able to use my imagination and bringing my designs to life.
Designing physical items that can be worn and styled brings me a lot of joy. With my jewelry I like to use; stones, metals, and shells. Nature is one of my biggest inspirations, it’s where I’m at my happiest.
I want people to know that when I’m working on their products I really strive to provide my best. I pay attention to the smallest detail and will work with you to curate a design that they will cherish.
Currently I am working on marketing myself more and pushing my brand. Right now I am working on trying to get my pieces displayed for sales at local businesses here in the Savannah area. You can purchase items from The Divine Scorpion’s Instagram. I charge a small fee for shipping and provide local pick up for Savannah residents.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I really want to get more into traveling and working markets. Markets are a great way to sell your items and meet and partner with other creatives. My first ever market I did with my mom, we split a both and displayed both our products. We experienced a great turnout and we loved it! I wanna hold myself accountable and want to try and make it to at least two or three markets before the end of the year.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I love seeing peoples face’s light up when they see my jewelry. Being able to create items that are my style and seeing others incorporate it into their style is very rewarding.
