We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Escapade A.K.A. Hunter Fowler. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Hunter below.
Hunter, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
As a teenager I had an encounter with the Holy Spirit in which I felt a call to ministry and helping to create opportunities for people to meet and grow in their relationship with Jesus. As I’ve grown God has unfolded new ways of doing so year by year. I started leading worship and writing worship music at age 16 and have been in some form of worship department capacity since.
In 2019 something very different happened. I went to school for Recording Arts and as such many of my production minded friends send me their work to critique, one of them sent me a beat and as I was listening I felt impressed of the Lord to stop critiquing and pray with the music. That moment of prayer turned out to be 8 bars of rap, something I had never done. I’ve always been a rap/hip-hop fan but wouldn’t have imagined writing and performing it. I felt like the Lord was saying if I was faithful with the gift, he would give me another way to reach people for Jesus!
2019 culminated with my 1st 7 song release under the name “Escapade” since I have released a number of singles and have more on the way! I’m committed to continue exploring what God has for me and releasing more and more music that Glorifies his name.
Hunter, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
At this point I’m focusing on writing music, performing, and growing my platform for the purpose of reaching people for Christ.
I’m most thankful for the blessing of the Lord. When I look back at the songs I’ve released so far and the ones I’m currently working on I’m blown away at the amount of scripture and biblical principle that has been released in a quick concise manner. I can’t even really take credit for it, I feel like the Lord is working creatively through this to begin to reteach the Gospel to a generation.
I want people who haven’t met me or known about me yet to know that the mission and the message (to spread the love of God and teach his uncompromised truth) will never change, but we have to invest in fresh methods to get that message to people.
I’m about that.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being creative?
I think the people and messages that have come back to me and talked to me about how certain songs/lyrics have impacted their lives has been the most rewarding thing. Even people who what reached out to say that they’ve had to study the word more to unpack some of the lyrics is really encouraging because at the end of the day I want people closer to Jesus!
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I think as a society we need to do a better job personally promoting what we support. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had conversations with people about them loving my music or even someone else’s but beyond AAA artists many people don’t talk to their circles of influence about what they are listening to. Long before Social Media and the Internet influencial people were made by a simple thing called word of mouth. I think as a whole we can do better to influence or circles and help grow creatives.
