We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Hunter Ambrose a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hunter , appreciate you joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
I came up with the name Emergence for my Sugar Scrub and Tarot Reading business because the definition means “the process of coming into view or becoming exposed after being concealed; the process of coming into being, or of becoming important or prominent. I feel that my sugar scrubs exfoliate the skin to remove dead skin cells and reveal the fresh skin beneath that is always emerging. I also believe that my Tarot Card Readings provide healing, clarity, and love to those who feel disconnected with the spiritual realm, assisting them in emergence from attachments that no longer serve them in order to elevate to a less burdened and lighter spirit filled with love and light. A true process of Emergence that I refer to as Spiritual Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. On my products I also include II Corinthians 5;17 on the labels of each of my products to further help customers “overstand” the purpose of the spirit of Emergence, because without the ability to experience Emergence in my own life I would not have been able to create this business. I want others to know they can break through the glass ceiling and emerge from any situation that life throws their way, and that they too are a powerful being that deserves to thrive in their greatness and authentic self. That is why we are named Emergence.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Hunter Ambrose, I am 29 years old. I am a woman, a mother, an entrepreneur, a student, and advocate for ethical and culturally competent social work practices. I started my business Emergence while I was trying to find more ways to provide financially for my children. I love natural African Black Soap and sugar scrub products, and I am also on a spiritual journey of finding who I really am on this Earth. I have seen for myself the healing my skin products and spiritual work has had on my life so I wanted to share that with others. I have been able to help bring healing to many others since starting in April 2022 officially creating the business. I am most proud of the fact that I can connect with people across all cultures, backgrounds, ages, genders, beliefs, etc. to demolish stigmas, stereotypes, and societal norms. Representation is important and I want others to know they can shine in their uniqueness, the world needs every bit of it.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing clientele for me is to live stream on social media platforms either promoting or providing the services I offer. Making live sales, and talking with clients over a live stream creates an opportunity to gain many new clients. It also helps to build a relationship that shows people who are really behind the scenes, and not just scripted videos or perfectly placed pictures. Live streaming meets the client where they are. If people are at home, and are online shopping more, Live streaming can also create a sense of trust, and show transparency that you are honest and true with the business because you are not afraid to show your face, and speak with customers live in front of others. It also boosts the confidence of the business owner because you can handle multiple inquiries at once. Confidence is something that adds glow to a person. Clients can see when someone is shining, and passionately running a business. I believe this is key for small businesses. Clients aren’t always looking for perfect, they are looking for passion because that is what brings quality to the products and services.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Building a presence on social media is about being authentic in your craft or service, as well as bringing something unique to the table as to why you are different. If you are being authentic and original in your posting, and streaming, you will attract the clients and customers that truly align with the mission, values, and goal of the business. Don’t try to hard, just be real.
