We recently connected with Hunter Abeyta and have shared our conversation below.
Hunter, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
My company, Hunter’s Hope Soaps was asked to donate an item for the Tim Tebow’s Night to Shine event two years ago. We ordered a star soap mold and we made almost 200 soaps for the event. It is a prom night for young adults with special needs. My friends all helped!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Hunter Abeyta and I have autism. I have a business called Hunter’s Hope Soaps. My friends and I all get together and we make soaps, sugar scrubs, bath salts, candles and lot’s more!! It is really fun when we get together. We do other fun things too, like play games, sing and visit places.
I started making soaps with my mom and sister-in-law about 5 years ago. I really liked it and thought my friends might like it to. It’s fun to add different scents and colors to soaps. We also like to make soaps in different shapes. We started adding more products to make. We added sugar scrubs, bath salts and bath bombs. Then we started making candles! We make LOTS of candles! We make almost 50 different scents and we name them for Colorado cities. Ex: Larkspur Lavender, Aspen Apple Cider, Denver Dry Gin. We make all different sizes too. We are getting ready to add pillow mist and reed diffusers to the list of things that we make.
We like creating new scents for people. A lot of our customers want to have their own custom scent, so we get to experiment a lot. That is really fun!
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The mission of Hunter’s Hope Soaps is to employ developmentally disabled young adults in the local community. We also want to create a safe environment for me and other young adults who have special needs to get together, have fun and make a quality product that is made with joy and creativity.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I have a lot of fun teaching new friends how to make our products. We like to do workshops with people of all different age groups and abilities and teach them how to make soap, bath salts, sugar scrubs and more!
